Back in early January of 2025, the waning days of the disastrously awful Biden presidency, President Joe Biden awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to a slew of infamous leftists, including both failed 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and billionaire financier of leftist causes George Soros. Fox News hosts Guy Benson, Rachel Campos-Duffy, and Charlie Hurt sounded off on the now-former president for the decision.
During the ceremony at the Whtie House in which Alex Soros accepted the medal on his elderly father’s behalf, presidential remarks praised Soros: “His inspiring generosity reminds us all of our capacity and our obligation to stand up to the abuse of power and to be guardians of democracy and all people yearning to be free.”
Soros’ Open Society Foundation commented on the award by saying, “Today our founder George Soros was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom—the highest civilian honor in the United States—in recognition of his lifelong commitment to defending freedom of expression and advancing human rights and justice.”
As could be expected, Republicans furiously sounded off in the wake of the ceremony. Particularly, a Fox News Channel “Fox & Friends Weekend” panel sounded off and hammered Soros as a particularly dastardly leftist figure who deserves the scorn of America rather than its highest civilian honor.
Chiming in and describing the situation, the panel’s Guy Benson noted that while some of the Biden medal recipients ok, some of the picks were particularly awful. He said, “Some disparagement pouring in over President Biden’s decision to award these Presidential Medals of Freedom to a number of controversial recipients. Some of them are perfectly fine, like I love Denzel Washington.”
Continuing, Benson noted that the two that are particularly egregious here are former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the infamous financier of far-left causes that harm Americans, like soft-on-crime prosecutors, George Soros. He said, “But getting particular attention and note, Hillary Clinton and George Soros.”
Chiming in and agreeing, Rachel Campos-Duffy said, “George Soros is a villain. Let’s be very clear.” Continuing, she pointed to the vast havoc that has occured because he funded the campaigns of soft on crime prosecutors, saying, “Just talking about the destruction that he caused by funding these D.A.s, these liberal D.A.s who were undermining law and order in these cities.”

Adding to that by broadly classifying the Biden Medal of Freedom recipients as the worst of the worst in American politics, Campos-Duffy explained, “… So these are these are bad people.” She added that the medla needs to be renamed to represent what was awarded. She said, “I would say destroying freedom gets you the Freedom Award, I guess.” On much the same note, Elon Musk said on X, “A travesty that Biden is giving Soros the Medal of Freedom.”
In any case, that’s when Hurt chimed in and noted, “The idea that you would give the award to those people, such deserving people, and then you would immediately cheapen the value of the award by giving it to these people who don’t deserve it.” He then said, “And then, oh, and then sell one for a couple hundred million dollars to George Soros.”
Hurt further added, “He gave one to RFK Senior, which was clearly I mean, why are you giving one to RFK Senior today? It’s kind of it’s sort of,it’s sort of bizarre, except it’s a shot to RFK Junior.” Campos-Duffy, reflecting on when Trump awarded the medal to Rush Limbaugh, said, “That one brought a tear to my eye.”
