Gavin Newsom Gets Bad News as Beloved Fox News Host Launches Gubernatorial Bid

Much-detested California Governor Gavin Newsom’s legacy is under attack, as well-liked Fox News Channel personality Steve Hilton, formerly an adviser to British Prime Minister David Cameron, is aiming to unseat the Democratic death-grip on the governor’s mansion and end the horrid results of “Democrat one-party rule” in the Golden State.

As background, California has placed term limits on the gubernatorial position, limiting anyone’s ability to serve in the position to two, four-year terms. Governor Newsom’s two terms are up, and so the position will be battled over in 2026, and it is up in the air whether Newsom can cement his legacy by putting a successor in the mansion.

Amongst those aiming to dethrone the Democrats and destroy Newsom’s legacy is Steve Hilton, who announced his bid for the position on Monday, April 21, posting a clip on X in which he explained his basic ideas and commented on the state of things in California that make it a state desperately in need of fixing.

Captioning the post, Hilton said he wants to make “California Golden Again,” writing, “It’s time to make California Golden Again. We need some balance here after 15 years of Democrat one-party rule. Positive, practical policies that actually help people, not ideological crusades. It’s why I am running for governor of California ☀️”

In the video itself, Hilton explained how he is only here because his family fled communism. Beginning, he said, “It all started with freedom. My parents fled communism in Hungary. So I was born in England, a free country, but a country in rapid decline. My earliest political memory was Mrs. Thatcher, the first British leader in a generation with the courage to fight back for freedom.”

Then, commenting on his familial values and how his parents lived that out, he explained, “Our family didn’t have money. My mom worked in a shoe store. My dad in construction, but like so many working class people, they just wanted a better life. My parents were so proud when I made it to Oxford University, and then when I got a job with the Conservative Party working for Margaret Thatcher, she unleashed the spirit of enterprise in England.”

He further noted that Thatcher’s fight for freedom inspired him to start working, first in the private sector and later in the government. Hilton explained, “She inspired me. I started a business, even a couple of restaurants, that is a tough business. Later, I helped elect a prime minister. Worked in 10 Downing Street in 2012 we moved to America, to California, the ultimate expression of America, the home of freedom, or it should be.”

Connecting that background to California and explaining why he is willing to step up and fight for the Golden State’s future, Hilton said, “I taught at Stanford University, started a company, wrote books, hosted a TV show, I lived the California Dream. I raised my family here, made my life here, became an American.”

Then, slamming Newsom’s legacy and policies, Hilton said, “It was one of the proudest days of my life, but also a reminder of the madness the masks, the lockdowns, the school closures. Look at these pictures, the chaos, the crime, the collapse of the California Dream. This is not just any other state. California means to America what America means to the world.”

Ending on a positive note, Hilton explained how he wants to rebuild the state, saying, “Let’s make California the land of opportunity. Again, great jobs, great homes, great kids. Let’s make California an inspiration again, the very best of America. There’s only one way to do that. We’ve got to end the one party rule that got us into this mess. It’s time to end the years of Democrat failure. It’s time for a new future. That’s why I’m running for governor to make this beautiful state that we love so much truly golden again.”
