Billionaire tech guru Bill Gates got some bad news as The Gates Foundation announced it will be slashing its workforce by 20% and will be commissioning an outside review to look into Gates’ connections with disgraced convicted pedophile and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. An internal email was blasted out to employees revealing the philanthropic organization will be undergoing significant organizational changes amid the controversy surrounding Gates’ relationship with Epstein.
The Gates Foundation has been getting hammered left, right, and sideways ever since details emerged concerning the nature of Gates’ relationship with Epstein and were released to the public. The Gates Foundation CEO, Mark Suzman, stated in a memo that was released on April 21, 2026, that he had commissioned an external examination of the organization’s engagement with Epstein.
Suzman also revealed he ordered a review of policies governing how new philanthropic partnerships are vetted and developed. In the communication, Suzman wrote, “This is a challenging time for our organization in many ways, but it also highlights the critical importance of taking the tough actions now.” Media outlets reported that an update on the review is expected to be released during the summer.
According to a report from Breitbart News, the foundation’s troubles ratcheted up in January 2026 when the Department of Justice put out emails revealing correspondence between Epstein and staff members working for the organization. These documents also contained a number of photos showing Bill Gates alongside Epstein. Perhaps most damning were photographs of Gates with women whose faces were redacted.
The following month, the Gates Foundation put out a statement saying it had not made any financial payments to Epstein nor hired him in any capacity. The statement also expressed regret that any of its employees had interactions with the convicted sex trafficker. During a town hall meeting with staff members held the same month, a spokesperson for the organization told Reuters that Gates “took responsibility for his actions,” referencing his ties to the disgraced billionaire.
As for Bill Gates himself, he has stated on numerous occasions that his relationship with the now-deceased Epstein was strictly limited to philanthropic matters. He has also acknowledged that meeting with him was a mistake. Gates has also denied having any contact with Epstein’s sexual abuse victims. The Wall Street Journal provided further information concerning the staff reduction.
In January, the organization revealed cuts would be made to staff due to its projected 2026 budget of $9 billion, with plans in place to cap their operating expenses at $1.25 billion. In order to hit that number, the Gates Foundation would need to cut 500 jobs by 2030. During the first phase of restructuring, the organization is planning to cut its staff of 2,375 by 200 by the end of 2027.

The organization is also going to go over their finances with a fine-toothed comb to look for ways they can reduce spending on travel and other expenses. An individual who commented on the Breitbart News story pointed out that, “If the people running the foundation were actually ethical, they would shut down the foundation due to all the destructive things Gates used the foundation to do.”
