In an exclusive report from the outlet Axios, news is breaking that Kevin McCarthy has provided exclusive access to countless hours of footage from events on January 6th, 2021. McCarthy had pledged to release the tapes to the American public but appeared to walk that sentiment back earlier this week.
Of the many revelations to come out of this, one striking feature is that the long-announced 14,000 hours of footage is actually much more than that. While on the surface that seems like a minor detail, in reality it is perhaps yet another piece of evidence suggesting we have not been told everything about that fateful day.
“House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has given Fox News’ Tucker Carlson exclusive access to 41,000 hours of Capitol surveillance footage from the Jan. 6 riot,” Axios reported via one of their inside sources close to the new GOP Speaker. It hardly seems like a simple case of dyslexia can account for the mistake of suggesting there were only 14,000 hours when there were almost three times as many.
Axios continued, saying, “Carlson TV producers were on Capitol Hill last week to begin digging through the trove, which includes multiple camera angles from all over Capitol grounds. Excerpts will begin airing in the coming weeks.”
Tucker Carlson himself is said to have stated to the reporter with the exclusive scoop on this developing story that “there was never any legitimate reason for this footage to remain secret.”
Read into that what you will. Perhaps the footage merely corroborates the official narrative. Or perhaps, as many conservative suggest, the footage reveals far more government involvement and that the fact our government first participated in and later covered up the truth is the real reason for Carlson to say there is no legitimate reason in a supposedly free country for such information to be hidden.
The FBI has already admitted that at least twenty agents were embedded on the ground that day. Their mission still remains unclear.
“If there was ever a question that’s in the public’s interest to know, it’s what actually happened on January 6. By definition, this video will reveal it. It’s impossible for me to understand why any honest person would be bothered by that,” Carlson continued.
“This is a game changer,” one user wrote on Twitter.
Carlson has gone on record saying that the events of January 6th, if indeed the results of a patriotic swarm getting out of hand, were at best an “outbreak of mob violence, a forgettably minor outbreak by recent standards.” He was referring to the riots in the summer of 2020 that wreaked havoc across the American landscape in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death.
He has also downplayed the day, attributing it to acts of “vandalism” rather than full-blown insurrection. It would be difficult for a small cadre of citizens to overthrow a government without weapons, for starters.
For his part, House Speaker McCarthy said that “the American public should actually see all [that] happened instead of a report that’s written [on] a political basis.”
Fast forward to today, and now that seems increasingly unlikely.
Conservative commentator Laura Loomer tweeted on Sunday that the Speaker has reversed course and is not “planning to release all of the J6 footage. Loomer said on Twitter:
“I’ve been told @SpeakerMcCarthy isn’t planning to release all of the J6 footage like he promised. He told members of Congress that it’s a “national security risk” to release the raw footage.J6 defendants who want it have to ask their rep to issue a written request on their behalf.”
