Speaking during the Monday, December 30 broadcast of his podcast, “Triggered,” Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of President-elect Donald Trump, commented on how he wasn’t particularly looking forward to New Year’s Eve this year, as the parties at Mar-a-Lago always involve a great many people who are very drunk giving him the worst advice imaginable.
As background, though Barron Trump got somewhat involved in the election this cycle, pushing his dad into some high-profile podcast interviews that appear to have helped substantially with getting young men to support him, Don Jr. is probably the most politically involved of the Trump children. Tiffany generally stays out of the spotlight, Eric mainly runs the business, and Ivanka was involved in the first administration but has indicated she will stay out of this one.
So, as the Trump kid who is involved in politics, it appears that Don Jr. has been on the receiving end of some drunkenly delivered, very bad advice about politics from guests of the Mar-a-Lago resort and Trump family on New Year’s Eve. He said he wasn’t looking forward to more of the same thing this year.
Such is what Don Jr. explained on his “Triggered” podcast, saying that he used to enjoy the end of the year celebration when a kid, but now just finds it tiresome. He said, “My birthday is New Year’s Eve… I get older. I was a kid, New Year’s Eve was a lot better because it was like, there’s always something to do. There’s always a party.”
Continuing, he said the problem is that it is “amateur night,” at the club, with all sorts of random people coming up to him, often while quite drunk, and giving him their personal opinions on politics, something he neither needs nor wants. He said, “Now it’s sort of like amateur night. I get to be around a thousand drunk people giving me their political opinions that I don’t necessarily want to hear.”
Building on that point, he commented on the immense drunkenness of most people at the event, particularly by the time it’s midnight and they have been there drinking very heavily for hours on end. He said, “While I love Mar-a-Lago, it’s sort of like, you know, the, you know, by about midnight when everyone’s like, you know, 12 beers deep or whatever it is they’re drinking, you know, the close talking opinions.”
Don Jr., a noted outdoorsman who is a flyfisherman and hunter known mainly for his big game hunts that involve a great deal of hiking, went on to say that he would much rather be hunting or fishing for his birthday than spending time having drunken ignoramuses tell him what his dad should be doing politically.
Giving an example of the sort of ridiculous drunken advice he gets, and joking about how dumb he would have to be for it to be relevant advice, Don Jr. said, “This’ll be like year, like nine of, ‘Hey, you know, have you ever thought to maybe have your dad not tweet that?'” he griped. “I’m like, no, I’ve never thought that ’cause I’m a freaking imbecile.”
