Rev. Franklin Graham recently kicked off a 10-stop tour along America’s southern border with Mexico to spread the Gospel to struggling border communities. Graham and his ministry have sought to spread the good news of Jesus Christ amid the challenging border crisis gripping the nation.
In an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network in Eagle Pass, Texas, Graham noted that within the last year, he felt that God was leading him to preach to America’s border communities. The reverend explained how this region is a “forgotten” part of the country and is faced with a number of issues.
“This is kind of a forgotten part of the United States,” he said. “You have cartel people who take advantage and smugglers that take advantage and you’ve got just good people that live here that get caught in the middle of all of this stuff and they have to deal with it.”
So far, the “God Loves You Frontera Tour” has received overwhelmingly positive feedback and record responses from many who are eager to hear the Gospel. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Organization (BGEA) has reported that the number of responses to the tour has surpassed any other U.S.-based evangelistic mission they have embarked on.
The tour commenced on February 24, starting in Brownsville, Texas, including stops in McAllen, Texas; Laredo, Texas; Eagle Pass, Texas; Del Rio, Texas; Presidio, Texas; El Paso, Texas; and Tucson, Arizona before concluding in Chula Vista, California on March 9. “We’ve had a higher response to the Gospel invitation here than anywhere else I’ve preached in the United States,” said Graham. “People are hungry and they’re hurting. They’re hungry for truth.”
Many local residents of these communities have expressed the positive impact the tour has had. “It’s a breath of fresh air with all the kind of negative news towards Eagle Pass,” said Gus Castaneda. High school senior Anahi Martinez explained her hope to bring Jesus to her commuinity. “I want them to come to know that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior but I also wanted to bring revival to the church,” she said.
The American Tribune reported on the “God Loves You Frontera” tour last month, where Graham illustrated the dire need for hope along the southern border. The BGCE intends to connect with over 1,000 different local churches along the route before the trip concludes.
“Everyone along the border is overwhelmed — the churches, the law enforcement agencies, the residents, those there trying to help, as well as the people coming into our country,” said Graham. “There are a lot of hungry hearts and hurting people, so I’m coming to the border to tell everyone about God’s Son, Jesus Christ, and how He can make a difference in our lives if we put our faith and our trust in Him.”
“Tonight I want you to know that you can have a personal relationship with God through faith in His Son Jesus Christ.” Graham said to an eager crowd, hungry for the message of Christ. “If you don’t remember anything else, remember this: God loves you.”
