Former Top Trump Official Comes Out Swinging Against Fox News Host for Betraying the Administration

Former White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia is not taking any guff from Fox News host Sean Hannity, slamming the longtime ally of President Donald Trump for surprising her with a rather hostile interview just a day before she suddenly departed from the administration. Zacharia, who only served in the position for five days, said she was stunned by the aggressive questioning coming from Hannity concerning her legal credentials after he spent significant time publicly defending her.

Zacharia made an appearance on the Newsmax program “Finnerty,” where she spoke with show host Rob Finnerty and revealed that she was still wrestling with the rapid change in Hannity’s treatment of her. “I’m just as perplexed about what happened specifically with Sean Hannity,” Zacharia told Finnerty. She recounted that Hannity’s team had reached out to her about being a California correspondent for his show just prior to her taking the press secretary job.

“We never had a conversation about my educational background,” she went on to say. Zacharia came under heavy scrutiny during her days at the White House after she repeatedly described herself as being an attorney, despite never having passed the California bar exam. Things hit a boiling point during her October 15 interview with Hannity.

During the interview, Hannity pressed Zacharia about her qualifications and then questioned if she had passed the bar exam. Just two days prior to the interview, Hannity publicly defended her from criticism she received after her first and only White House briefing, which only lasted 14 minutes and included only three questions, according to a report from Trending Politics News.

Later, Hannity described the press briefing as being “widely panned,” which only served to add layers of awkwardness to an already uncomfortable situation. Following the interview, Zacharia unfollowed Hannity on social media. Finnerty then asked her if she would ever consider going back on his program again.

Zacharia responded by saying she’s no stranger to making difficult television appearances. “Look, I never bow away from a fight or back away from a fight, Rob. I’ve been on CNN,” she told the host. “I’ve debated some of the most hostile, not anchors, but guests. And I have been able to do it with grace, with dignity, and walk away and even maintain decorum,” Zacharia added.

“But because I had had a very friendly rapport with Sean and he had even made very backing statements about me on Tuesday, October 13th, really coming to my defense, I was not prepared for the hostility that I received,” she continued. Many have started speculating about whether the hostility from Hannity toward Zacharia was directed from someone inside the White House.

Hannity, of course, has denied that allegation. Zacharia said she was not sure what might have prompted the host’s sudden change of course. Zacharia decided to step down from her briefly held position after President Trump encouraged her to reconsider staying on the job with all of the criticism about her performance.

“You don’t have to do this if you don’t want,” Trump recounted telling Zacharia. Despite the sudden exit, Zacharia stated clearly that she still stands behind the president and would gladly accept another opportunity to hold a position in his administration. “Absolutely. I would do so in a heartbeat,” she said when asked if she would work for the president again.

Newsmax’s Rob Finnerty asked former White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia whether she believes Sean Hannity set her up with the Fox interview.

    She didn’t say no.
