When former President Donald Trump hopped on the phone to speak with Fox News Channel host Bret Baier on Thursday night after Vice President Kamala Harris’ speech at the last night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, the network shocking cut the former president off to cut to a new program. Trump then, funnily, called in. Later on, he took to Truth Social to express his displeasure about what was being reported about the incident.
As background, the original incident occurred during a conversation between Fox News Channel anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum and former President Donald Trump on Thursday, August 22. While the former president was speaking about Kamala’s speech, the network, incredibly, cut off the former president as it cut to the beginning of Mr. Greg Gutfeld’s late-night program, “Gutfeld!”
In fact, as Trump spoke, the network prepared to cut away, and Baier and MacCallum told him they had to end the show and move the programming over to “Gutfeld!”. That late-night show then began, and Gutfeld joked that the cutting off of the former president wasn’t his fault, saying, “That wasn’t my fault, Donald Trump. He’s still talking, by the way!”
Trump then called Gutfeld’s cell phone, and Gutfeld, answering, said, “Mr. President, I’m live now, say hello to my audience. So don’t say anything that will get you in trouble!” Trump then said, funnily, “At this point, what difference does it make? We’re doing well, we’re leading in the polls,” Gutfeld then began, saying, “Alright, Mr. President—” but Trump, hilariously, interrupted him and continued with his point about being and doing better than Kamala, citing poll numbers and saying the Democratic Party “basically staged a coup.”
Smiling as Trump sounded off on the situation, Gutfeld shrugged and said, “Yeah.” Trump, continuing, predicted that he would do very well in the upcoming election against Kamala, saying, “And, you know, let’s all see how it happens. But I think we’re doing very well.” “Alright, Mr. P, I gotta go!” Gutfeld then told him, wanting to get back to normal programming. Trump, taking it in good stride, told him, “Have a good time!” Gutfeld, hanging up, said, “I’ll see ya!”
Former President Trump later took to Truth Social to sound off on the whole situation, noting that he had been called by Baier to chime in and that he thought Kamala’s speech was weak and weird. Beginning, he said, “Bret Baier of FoxNews called me, I didn’t call him, just prior to the Kamala Convention speech, and asked me if I would like to critique her after she is finished.”
Continuing, he said that he agreed to that interview and that he thought Kamala’s speech was terrible and weird. He said, “I agreed to do so! — I thought it was nonspecific and weak, with no fracking, crime, inflation or anything else of interest even mentioned. Delivery was a C+, with far too many and speedy “thank you’s” at the beginning. It was ‘WEIRD!’”
He then noted that other networks called him too, he didn’t call into them. He said, “Likewise, I didn’t call other media outlets that asked me to go on, they called me. The Fake News, like often “gilted” Maureen Dowd of the failing New York Times, wrote incorrectly that I was making the calls. WRONG!!! I don’t have to make calls to go on TV, or anything else — They call me! It’s called Ratings, I guess, and I’m the ‘Ratings Machine!’”
