Conservative watchdog group, the Oversight Project, referred former FBI Director Christopher Wray to the DOJ and FBI, alleging that he lied to Congress and obstructed justice. The accusation and recommendation for prosecution are connected to his misleading testimony surrounding an anti-Catholic bias memo, which painted traditional Catholics as extremists and cited far-left sources like the SPLC.
For context, Wray is also accused of standing in the way of an investigation into Chinese election interference in the 2020 election. Declassified documents from FBI Director Kash Patel and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) show a report that contradicts Wray’s claims of innocence.
During his controversial testimony from 2023, Wray sought to distance himself from the accusations of bias. He alleged, “Well, what I can tell you is you’re referring to the Richmond product, which is a single product by a single field office, which as soon as I found out about it, I was aghast and ordered it withdrawn and removed from FBI systems.”
However, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley later proved these statements were false. The courageous Republican revealed, “Based on records I released the other week, there wasn’t just one FBI document that used biased anti-Catholic sources, but over a dozen,” adding, “And more FBI field offices were involved than we’d been led to believe.”
In a recently unearthed memo from the FBI’s Richmond field office, the bureau claimed that it “assesses RMVE (Racially Motivated Violent Extremism) interest in RTC (Radical Traditional Catholic) ideology is likely to increase … in the run-up to the [2024] general election cycle.”
Slamming the cowardly former FBI dorector, the Oversight Project realeased a statement which read, “Director Wray’s testimony was inaccurate not only because it failed to reveal the scope of the memo’s production and dissemination, but also because it failed to reveal the existence of a second, draft product on the same topic intended for external distribution to the whole FBI.”
As we reported, Sen. Grassley has dug into a scheme within the FBI to halt the investigation of alleged Chinese interference in the 2020 election, showing that the bureau had covered up evidence that would have hurt the reputation of former Director Chris Wray.

Slamming the former FBI Director, Grassley slammed Wray for “Providing inaccurate and contradictory testimony to Congress.” He noted how the intelligence agency “Suppressed intelligence of alleged Chinese interference in the 2020 election to insulate then-FBI Director Christopher Wray from criticism.”
According to the courageous Iowa Republican, these shady dealings, “Smack of political decision-making and prove the Wray-led FBI to be a deeply broken institution,” prompting him to declare that the FBI had “Turned its back on its national security mission.”
Providing evidence of the cover-up, he revealed that “Evidence provided by an FBI Confidential Human Source (CHS) alleging that the Chinese government was producing ‘tens of thousands’ of fraudulent drivers’ (sic) licenses to manufacture mail-in votes for then-presidential candidate Joe Biden in the 2020 election.'”
However, despite the credible evidence of foreign interference, the findings “Were allegedly never fully investigated.” Grassley also noted that the “Sudden and ‘abnormal’ decision to halt the investigation into the alleged Chinese election interference ‘and bury the IIR’s existence.'” According to the relevant documents, the “Stated reason for doing so was because ‘the reporting will contradict Director Wray’s testimony.'”
