Fox News anchor Howard Kurtz recently tried to push back on an argument from Republican National Committee Chair Lara Trump, who slammed the Democratic Party for its “mudslinging” toward Republicans. Trump argued that the attacks from the left were a desperate strategy that ultimately drove voters away from Kamala Harris. However, Kurtz attempted to stump Lara by suggesting President-elect Donald Trump employed the same approach, but was decisively shut down.
During the segment, Trump picked apart the Harris-Walz campaign, asserting that it lacked a coherent message as to why American voters should vote for Kamala. “Well, I think it said all along that she didn’t really have a plan. She didn’t really have a single policy point that she could, you know, direct the American people to and say, This is why you should vote for me,” she said.
The RNC chair continued, explaining that a campaign must have substance beyond hurling attacks at its opponent. “If you’re running for President of the United States, you better lay out a great plan for the American people and tell them how you’re going to make their life better, not just continually attack the the opposition.”
Further criticizing this strategy, she said, “And I think whenever they got to a level of just insulting people and trying to harass people into voting for them, that’s kind of how, when you lose the the American public, when people say, ‘You know what, I don’t want to be insulted into voting for someone. I want to actually look at how this person might make my life better and make the future better for this country, my kids, my grandkids, etc.’ So I think when they got to the point of constant mudslinging and not really talking about what they do for the American people, I think that’s what lost in the election.”
Kurtz responded to Trump’s point, suggesting that President-elect Trump might have also launched attacks at Vice President Harris throughout his campaign. “Couldn’t Democrats say the same? Because during the campaign, Trump called the vice president dumb, cursed her at one point and questioned her racial identity?” he asked.
Addressing this, Trump argued that Trump’s commentary about Harris was very different than the salacious denigration that he faced, maintaining that criticisms of the vice president were rooted in her record with issues such as rampant illegal immigration.
Offering a rebuttal to Kurtz’s point, she said, “Well, I think whenever you see Donald Trump say things like this, this is not out of character for him. This is who he’s always been. I think it’s pretty dumb Howie, to leave the border wide open and allow 20 million people to pour into our country illegally. I think it’s pretty dumb to do things like shut down the Keystone XL Pipeline and render us no longer energy-independent. Maybe there are a lot of dumb things that happened during the course of this administration, and I think a lot of Americans agree with Donald Trump’s assessment of exactly that.”
However, Kurtz continued to push back saying, “Well, it’s one thing to say that the policies are done, versus saying somebody essentially has a low IQ.” Trump immediately fired back, “You gotta question someone’s intelligence if they’re doing these things, quite frankly.” Watch the conversation between Trump and Kurtz below:
