In a horrible example of woke ideology gone wrong, Palmetto Bay, Florida, Councilman Steve Cody has faced massive backlash for his heinous remarks about assassinated conservative Charlie Kirk’s Christian faith, calling him a “fitting sacrifice” to gun rights.

For context, Cody eventually deleted his posts and apologized for his “misguided” actions. Reacting to the incident, Florida Republicans, including Reps. Carlos Gimenez and María Elvira Salazar slammed the horrific comments and demanded his resignation. Additionally, Florida’s Education Commissioner announced investigations into educators who celebrated Kirk’s death, stating that one official has already been fired.

In any case, in his horrible post to social media, Councilman Steve Cody attacked Kirk’s Second Amendment stance, writing, “Charlie Kirk is a fitting sacrifice to our Lords: Smith and Wesson. Hallowed be their names.”

After his heinous post went viral, the disgraced politician was forced to write an embarrassing resignation letter. Starting his comments, he said, “Yesterday, I regrettably made a significant error in judgment by sharing a quotation on my personal Facebook page that referenced remarks made by the deceased Charlie Kirk. This action, born out of my deep anger and frustration with the now too common tragedy of gun violence, was misguided.”

Building on his previous comments, Steve Cody wrote, “I want to state unequivocally that this post did not and does not reflect my personal values, my deeply held beliefs, or my solemn responsibilities as an elected official. To the Kirk family, my sincere condolences during this difficult time, and my apologies for any statements I made that caused you further distress,” adding, “I screwed up.”

In a statement to social media, Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL)  slammed the inappropriate actions, saying,
“Absolutely mortified by Palmetto Bay councilman Steve Cody’s mocking of Charlie Kirk’s death in real time. This is unbecoming of any elected official. Steve Cody must resign.”

Echoing these remarks, Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) blasted the councilman, saying,  “How disgusting for Steve Cody, an elected official, to not only celebrate news of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, but also, sacrilegiously smear the name of an American Patriot who was passionate about his faith in the one true lord, Jesus Christ. Charlie wanted his legacy to be courage for his faith. People like Cody betray the trust of the very community they represent.”

Still not done with her rebuke, Salazar noted, “Palmetto Bay deserves leaders who model integrity and respect, not officials who glorify violence and mock a man’s faith. This country was built on the values of free speech, civic discourse and debate. Steve Cody doesn’t understand one of the most fundamental and basic principles of our nation, or have any common decency.”

Similarly, Florida State Senator Ileana Garcia (R) issued her own more laconic response to social media condemning the remarks. She posted, “Abhorrent!! Unacceptable!! Resign!!!!!!!!!!!” which summarized the feelings of many Floridians.

Taking an active stance against horrific comments made about Charlike Kirk, Florida Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas announced, “It has been brought to my attention that some Florida educators have posted despicable comments on social media regarding the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk. These few are not a reflection of the great, high-quality teachers who make up the vast majority of Florida’s educators. Nevertheless, I will be conducting an investigation of every educator who engages in this vile, sanctionable behavior.”
