Speaking with CNN’s Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union,” United States Senator from the Keystone State John Fetterman, a Democrat, explained that former president and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump “has a connection” with Pennsylvania voters.
That point is important given the vast importance that Pennsylvania has during this election cycle. While former President Trump has a possible path to victory without Pennsylvania, his election chances will be significantly higher if he wins it, with victory near assured.
Bringing up the matter of Pennsylvania, CNN’s Dana Bash noted that Kamala is campaigning hard in Pennsylvania, saying, “So tomorrow, Kamala Harris will spend the last full day of the campaign only in Pennsylvania. She is going to be in Allentown, Pittsburgh and in Philadelphia.”
She continued, further elaborting for Sen. Fetterman, “There’s there’s 48 hours left in this race. When Trump won Pennsylvania you said your party wasn’t connecting with voters enough that it needs. What are you seeing now? Are you seeing any of the same warning signs in 2024?”
Sen. Fetterman noted that the election will be close in this election as it has been close in the past two elections, saying, “No, there’s nothing new here. I said the same thing in 2016. I said it will be close. There’s an issue there, and I said it is going to be close in 2020, and it was. I have been saying this: when it was Biden or Harris, it was going to be very close.”
He continued, noting that, though Harris has support from Keystone State voters, Trump has a serious connection with voters. He said, “And Trump definitely has a connection with voters here in Pennsylvania. That’s why it’s going to be close. But there’s a lot of tremendous amount of energy for Harris too.”
Then, building on that, he argued, “Yesterday I was in Eerie and with President Clinton and I was in Butler County as well too. The energy is really strong. I just met a whole bus of volunteers from Rochester, New York and they are showing up and will knock on doors for Harris.”
This isn’t the first time that Sen. Fetterman has commented on the broad and serious support Trump has in Pennsylvania. Speaking on it before, he said, “I was doing an event in Indiana County. Very, very red. And there was a superstore of Trump stuff, and it was a hundred feet long. [There were] dozens of T-shirts and hats and bumper stickers and all kinds of, I mean, it’s like, Where does this all come from? It’s the kind of thing that has taken on its own life. And it’s like something very special exists there. And that doesn’t mean that I admire it. It’s just — it’s real.”
And, commenting on how Elon Musk has helped boost it, he said, “And now [Elon] Musk is joining him. I mean, to a lot of people, that’s Tony Stark. That’s the world’s richest guy. And he’s obviously, and undeniably, a brilliant guy, and he’s saying, Hey, that’s my guy for president. That’s going to really matter.”
