The Federal Bureau of Investigation has executed a federal search warrant at the office of Democratic Virginia State Sen. L. Louise Lucas, the agency confirmed with local media. A source revealed the raid is part of a corruption and bribery investigation which originally kicked off during the Biden administration. While raiding her Portsmouth office, an armored FBI vehicle, along with several camouflaged agents, were spotted outside the Cannabis Outlet that Lucas owns.
The store was first opened in 2021. Officers were seen taking several individuals into custody at the location. A federal judge gave the warrants his stamp of approval, meaning there was probable cause to suspect that evidence of wrongdoing existed in Lucas’ office and business. The FBI informed the media that there was no threat to the public safety of anyone at the location and that the investigation is ongoing.
Lucas released a statement about the raids, saying, “I am not backing down, and I will keep fighting for the people of Portsmouth and the Commonwealth of Virginia.” Reports say that Lucas is considered to be one of the most powerful and influential politicians in the state. Lucas is currently locked in a heated battle against Gov. Abigail Spanberger concerning the budget.
She also shot down former Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s attempt to bring a sports arena to the city of Alexandria, according to a report from Fox Baltimore. Lucas is the Senate President Pro Tempore and the chair of the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee, having served well over three decades in her current position.
“Today’s actions by Federal agents are about far more than one state senator; they are about power and who is allowed to use it on behalf of the people. What we saw fits a clear pattern from this administration: when challenged, they try to intimidate and silence the voices who stand up to them,” Lucas’ statement said. “Just two weeks ago, Virginians sent a powerful message when they voted to stop Trump’s scheme to manipulate the 2026 midterm elections.”
“Voters across this Commonwealth made clear that power belongs with the people, not with politicians who try to take power away from them. I was proud to help lead that effort and I have never been afraid to stand up to Donald Trump or anyone else that has tried to undermine our democracy. I am deeply grateful for the love and support of my family and friends and for the many colleagues and constituents who have reached out in recent hours,” the state senator added.
I will have more to say in the days ahead, but know this: I am not backing down, and I will keep fighting for the people of Portsmouth and the Commonwealth of Virginia,” Lucas concluded. A comment by user Paul Szypula on X spoke of the raids, saying he hopes Lucas gets tossed in prison. “State Sen. Louise Lucas was the driving force behind the gerrymandering in Virginia. She has also had previous accusations of wrongdoing with her cannabis business (that’s across the street from her office). She was accused of using illegal substances in her cannabis.”

“Lucas is also a staunch critic of President Trump. Mix all of that together and you see why she’s now being raided by the FBI and some of her cannabis employees were taken into custody. Lucas messed around and now she’s finding out. I’m glad. Hopefully she gets jail time. Nobody is above the law!” Szypula concluded.
