Recent reports indicate that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has served subpoenas in the Chicago suburb where “supermayor” Tiffany Henyard has faced allegations of corruption. Henyard has been accused of abusing her position of power through activities such as weaponizing local law enforcement and misusing taxpayer dollars.
Henyard serves as mayor of Dolton and Thornton Township Supervisor, where some have called her the “worst mayor in America” over her purported abuses of power. In light of this alleged misconduct, four FBI agents showed up at Dolton Village Hall on Friday afternoon, issuing two federal subpoenas.
Reports indicate that the first subpoena requested employment records, personnel files, and disciplinary reports for 25 Dolton employees. The over two dozen employees include three police officers and Keith Freeman, the village administrator who was recently charged with bankruptcy fraud.
“Months and months and months, we have been begging for someone to come out here and actually investigate as to what’s actually going on out here,” said Dolton trustee Tammie Brown, who celebrated the highly anticipated FIB investigation.
According to an official statement from the FBI, “I can confirm that the FBI was conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity in that area today. Department of Justice policy prevents the FBI from commenting on the nature of any investigation that may be occurring. There is no further information available for release at this time.”
Other leaders of the Dolton community have noted the mismanagement of the locality appears to be coming to an end. “The House of Cards are collapsing,” stated Burt Odelson, who serves as the Legislative Counsel for the Village of Dolton Board of Trustees. “I think the government is taking action.”
Odelson added that the FBI agents could encounter hurdles in their attempt to secure the documents, stating, “The clerk is the custodian of the records. That’s the good news. The bad news is she doesn’t have any records because they have taken the records away from her.” Brown corroborated this statement, claiming, “I was being told that those documents probably have been shredded weeks ago.”
Dolton trustee Brittany Norwood noted the abysmal financial situation the locality is in. “Since September, we haven’t received financials and the last time we did receive financials, we were informed that we were $7 million dollars in debt,” said Norwood
When news broke that federal agents would descend on Village Hall, a crowd of local community members assembled in the area where many support an investigation into the mayor. Reportedly, the Dolton Board of Trustees even hired former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to investigate Henyard.
“The people of Dolton want to be rescued, they know they’re bleeding and they know there’s no money left and they live there. So, what’s next? Police services? Fire services? Water? What’s next?” Odelson said, illustrating the dire predicament the community faces.
Mayord Henyard posted a retaliatory statement on Facebook Friday night, instructing readers to “stop chasing fake news. She wrote, “To all you clowns thats apart of the circus. Misery needs company, I pray for you all (pray emoji) Stop chasing Fake News.” Watch news coverage of the controversy below:
