In big news for those wanting to see President Donald Trump get revenge on those who tried using lawfare against him during the Biden years, US Attorney John A. Sarcone III announced that both the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and US Attorneys Office for the Northern District of New York had begun a criminal investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James for alleged mortgage fraud.
As background, the new FBI case against James stems from a criminal referral that was issued last month by Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte, who wrote a letter in which he alleged that she had committed mortgage fraud in a variety of ways, such as by lying about her husband and personal residence.
Announcing the decision to investigate NY AG James, U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III, who is in charge of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York’s Northern District said, as was reported by the Albany Times Union, “This is being handled at this time by main (Department of) Justice and the Albany FBI field office.”
Continuing, he emphasized that the DOJ and FBI would do whatever it needs to do to bring about justice, and is willing to act based on what new facts it finds as the investigation gets going. He said, “We stand prepared to act in the capacity that we need to when and if we are informed there’s a charge to be made.”
He then contrasted that with AG James and her pledge to go after President Trump, saying that the DOJ would remain professional and ethical. he said, “Unlike Letitia James, who unethically ran around the state campaigning on getting Donald Trump… my office conducts itself in a manner that is proper and professional.”
Praising the new FBI investigation into NY AG James, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), a staunch ally of President Trump, said, “I commend the FBI and the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York for investigating New York Attorney General Letitia James over mortgage fraud. Nobody is above the law. These serious allegations—falsifying records to secure favorable loan terms on properties in Virginia and New York—threaten public trust in our institutions. The hypocrisy is staggering: Tish James allegedly committed the same crime that she falsely and illegally prosecuted President Donald Trump for.”
Continuing, Rep. Stefanik said, “For years, I’ve led the charge against Tish James’ political weaponization and abuse of her office to target Trump and other political opponents illegally. In February 2024, I filed a bar complaint with the New York State Committee on Professional Standards, detailing how she violated ethical rules during her biased investigation and prosecution of Trump, including over 50 prejudicial social media posts in just the first five weeks of his civil fraud trial. Her weaponized lawfare campaign, which began the moment she announced her candidacy for Attorney General, undermined the impartiality expected of New York’s top prosecutor.”

Seh added that James is the epitome of New York corruption and that the investigation into her is a step toward justice, saying, “Tish James’ actions embody the corruption among NY elected Democrats led by Kathy Hochul. I recently exposed how Governor Kathy Hochul and Albany Democrats secretly inserted language into the state budget to cover James’ legal expenses with taxpayer money. This abuse of power is an insult to New Yorkers already struggling with high taxes. The investigation into Letitia James is a vital step toward justice.
