The fast growing YouTube channel “Dad How Do I?” is taking over the internet as its owner Rob Kenney celebrated the third anniversary of the channel this month. As a channel that is predicated on teaching life lessons to young men who are growing up without a father, “Dad How Do I?” has touched the lives to millions of young men and teens.
In the description of the channel, Kenney wrote, “Here you will find “How To” videos by a dad who has raised 2 adults (and we still talk). I will do my best to provide useful , practical content to many basic tasks that everyone should know how to do. On this channel, you will find a variety of content like How To’s, Story times, Dad Chats, and more!”
Sharing his story in a video commemorating 3 years of teaching young men, Kenney shared the story of his own life and what led him to start the channel. As a teenager, Kenney’s father abandoned his family, saying that he was tired of raising the boy and his siblings. From then on, Kenney never again was taught a lesson by his dad.
As a grownup Kenney went on to raise to kids and through teaching them how to live a good life, and even just teaching them mundane tasks like shaving and tying a tie, he realized that he could help millions of men by showing them the lessons that his father neglected to teach him.
Kenney didn’t stop there however, as he also makes content that can benefit both young men and women. This includes videos focused on cooking, managing finances, and even living a healthy lifestyle.
It has been well documented in recent years that a child growing up without their father present is at a great disadvantage, and Kenney has found a really creative way to help so many members of the next generation of America.
It is easy to imagine that his video on how to tie a tie has landed numerous jobs for young men who otherwise would not have the knowledge to dress appropriately for a serious job interview. His video on living a healthy lifestyle has definitely had a great impact on 41 thousand accounts that have viewed the short four minute video. Even his brief summary of index funds likely pointed his followers in a better direction financially than had they tried to figure it all out on their own.
Kenney is a great example of using past traumas and difficulties, learning from them, then helping others avoid the same pitfalls. He isn’t made that he had to learn all of this for himself, instead he is making sure that nobody else has to. All that a fatherless child needs to learn these simple tasks is internet access and a fee YouTube account.
