In the wake of a supposed scandal in which The Atlantic journalist Jeffrey Goldberg was allegedly added to a Signal group chat, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries went berserk and demanded, in a letter to President Donald Trump published on March 25, that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth be forced to resign.
As background, Goldberg, who is the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, was supposedly added to a Signal group chat in which, he claimed, top Trump Administration officials like Secretary of Defense Hegseth and Vice President JD Vance were discussing “war plans,” though he didn’t publish those alleged plans. Though Hegseth has denied that such conversations took place, Rep. Jeffries ran with it to demand Trump fire Hegseth.
Such is what the House Minority Leader did in a letter to President Trump that was published on Tuesday, March 25. In the anger-filled letter, the woke Democrat demanded the president fire Hegseth for supposedly violating the law and putting Americans in danger, neither of which allegation appears to be true.
Beginning the letter, Jeffries said that Hegseth’s mere presence at the Pentagon is putting Americans at risk, claiming, “Pete Hegseth is the most unqualified Secretary of Defense in American history. His continued presence in the top position of leadership at the Pentagon threatens the nation’s security and puts our brave men and women in uniform throughout the world in danger.”
Continuing, Jeffries claimed that the chat Goldberg was added to included sensitive plans, an allegation Hegseth denies, writing, “The so-called Secretary of Defense recklessly and casually disclosed highly sensitive war plans—including the timing of a pending attack, possible strike targets and the weapons to be used—during an unclassified national security group chat that inexplicably included a reporter.”
Concluding, Jeffries claimed once again that Hegseth had put lives at risk, accused him of violating the law, and demanded that he be fired. He wrote, “His behavior shocks the conscience, risked American lives and likely violated the law. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth should be fired immediately.”
Secretary Hegseth, for his part, told reporters that Goldberg’s allegations lack substance. He said, Fox News Digital reports, commenting on the claim top Trump Administration personnel were discussing war plans in the chat, “As I also stated yesterday, nobody’s texting war plans, and that’s all I have to say about that.” He added, “I know exactly what I’m doing, exactly what we’re directing, and I’m really proud of what we accomplished, the successful missions that night and going forward.”

Jeffries, in any case, has kept up the attacks, regardless of what might actually be the truth about the situation. In one tweet, for example, he wrote, “The CIA Director testified today that he is not sure a reporter was on the unclassified national security group chat that recklessly disclosed military plans in Yemen. The whole world is aware of who was part of Signalgate. These people cannot be trusted with America’s national security.”
In another, he vowed to drag officials before Congress, writing, “The arrogance and incompetence of the Trump administration is stunning. Democrats will grill several national security officials under oath this week. And expose the harm they have done to the American people.” He also spoke about the matter on MSNBC. Watch him here:
