In a very sad announcement on X (formerly Twitter), Abigail, the daughter of former Republican member of the United States Congress Mia Love, who represented Utah’s fourth district, announced that her mother had brain cancer that is no longer responding to treatment, indicating it will soon be fatal.
As background, former Rep. Love won a seat in a redrawn district near Utah’s Salt Lake City in 2014. She held that seat for two terms, losing it to a Democrat in 2018. When she won in 2014, Rep. Love was the first black Republican woman ever elected to Congress. She also was the first black member of Congress to represent Utah when she won.
As a member of Congress, Rep. Love was mainly known for working on the Financial Services Committee. In 2022, four years after her 2018 electoral defeat, the former representative was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a brain tumor. The former representative revealed her diagnosis in August 2023.
Then, on Saturday, March 1, Abigail announced on X that her mom’s brain tumor had stopped responding to treatment. She said, beginning her post, “Hello Friends, I’m Mia’s daughter Abigale. Many of you are aware that Mom has been fighting GBM brain cancer.”
Continuing, she said, getting to the point of describing what is now happening and how the family is responding, “Sadly her cancer is no longer responding to treatment and the cancer is progressing. We have a shifted our focus from treatment to enjoying our remaining time with her.”
Concluding, she asked people to send in any memories they have of the cancer-afflicted former representative, saying, “I am building an archive of special memories with Mia. Please send your pictures, videos and memories to me at MiaLoveMemories@gmail.com. Thank you ”
Last posting about her diagnosis in May of 2024, former Rep. Love said, “These past few years have not been easy, but I have found strength and solace in my faith and constant support and love in my family. Together, they have given me hope! Whatever challenges you are facing now, keep fighting and know that there is hope.”

Rep. Love isn’t the only one to announce a cancer issue recently. Doing the same just days before the post from Abigail, Kat Timpf, the FNC personality who often appears on “Gutfeld!” alongside Greg Gutfeld, announced, “Last week, I welcomed my first child into the world. About fifteen hours before I went into labor, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.”
Continuing, Timpf noted that the cancer doesn’t appear to be overly threatening. She said, “Now, before you worry, my doctor says it’s Stage 0 and is confident that it almost certainly hasn’t spread. Or, as I’ve explained to the few people I’ve managed to tell about it so far: Don’t freak out. It’s just, like, a LITTLE bit of cancer.”
Writing later on in her post about how she has reacted to the news, “Anyway! These next three months of maternity leave are going to look a lot different than I’d anticipated, and I’m still getting used to my new reality. Still, as I navigate new motherhood (and new cancer) I’m learning to celebrate everything I can. I’m lucky that we found the cancer so early; I’m lucky to be my son’s mom. I mean, I know I’m biased, but the little dude absolutely rules — and not just because he might have saved my life.”
