White House border czar Tom Homan made a recent appearance on “The Sunday Briefing” on Fox News where he stated that the Department of Homeland Security had launched an investigation into allegations concerning Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), though he would not provide any specifics into what he described as an “ongoing criminal investigation.”
When Homan was pressed on whether the federal government has evidence that Omar may have committed some form of immigration or naturalization fraud, he declined to answer. “I know things are going on, but I can’t give specifics of what’s happening,” Homan told the show’s host. “If someone committed an immigration violation, if someone committed marriage fraud or anything like that, regardless if they’re a congressman or not, no one’s above the law.”
“So, I’ll leave it at that. We’ll let HSI, Homeland Security Investigations, continue the investigation,” Homan added. He was later asked directly if he was confirming a criminal investigation into the Minnesota Democrat, to which he replied, “I’m confirming that ICE is, yeah — look, I said months ago that there’s something that’s been reported and needs to be looked at.”
Omar has been the subject of a lot of controversy due to allegations that she married a man many of her critics claim was her brother in order to get him legally into the United States. Unsurprisingly, Omar has denied the allegations. The claim has not been proven in any public records as of this writing. In December 2025, she waved off the claims, saying they are “bigoted lies,” writing on social media that Trump is obsessed with her.
According to a report from Fox News, Homan’s comments on the matter follow Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin’s interview on a podcast during which he stated, “Something’s going to happen. … We know that she married her brother to try to bring him to the United States. We know he now lives in London.”
“There may be more to this, the whole family migration and possibly some illegal activity for them to come to the United States to begin with. … If we can prove it, that you shouldn’t have been here in the first place, we will deport you,” Mullin continued. Vice President JD Vance also stated in May 2026 that the DOJ was looking into whether Omar committed immigration fraud.
“You read the things about Ilhan Omar … who she married and whether she didn’t marry this person or that person,” Vance said at the time. “It certainly seems like something fishy is there, but everybody’s entitled to equal justice under the law.” Vance’s comments came after his own podcast interview in March, during which he told commentator Benny Johnson that he had talked with Stephen Miller, the White House’s immigration advisor, about taking legal action against Omar.

“We think Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America,” Vance said. Homan also said, “If someone lies through that process to becoming a citizen, and we can prove they, in fact, lied or misrepresented themselves, we can absolutely denaturalize them. We’ve done it before many times over the last 40 years I’ve been around, so it’s a process.”
An individual who posted on the story on X summed it up best by writing, “This whole case is just wild to watch unfold because they keep calling it “bigoted lies” yet the DHS is literally opening up a criminal case, so clearly there’s enough smoke here for a massive fire and people are finally getting tired of the double standards.”
