The recent Fox News-hosted GOP debate for 2024 which Trump did not attend showed many things, including that DeSantis was unable to turn on the charisma for a debate, Vivek knows exactly what the MAGA base wants to hear, and Chris Christie is intent on playing the role of a scorned ex and attack Trump viciously for anything and everything. Another thing it showed was that much of the pre-Trump GOP is gone and has been replaced by MAGA-tinted views and policies.
Such is what Fox News host Laura Ingraham said during a recent monologue on her show. It occurred on Thursday, a day after the first Republican primary debate. In the monologue, Ingraham said that she believes the debate proved the so-called “old guard” GOP is being replaced with conservative populism that appeals more to ordinary Americans.
Though she framed herself on being on the MAGA side of the debate, which is absurd given her role on post-Tucker Carlson Fox News. Regardless, the monologue was otherwise perceptive and shows how the GOP is changing thanks to Trump and the populist views of the average voter.
Beginning, Ingraham said that the populists have won the battle inside the GOP and now need to use that victory to mobilize against the left. She said, “So we have won this debate inside the GOP, period, end of story. Now, it’s just a question of beating the Democrats and attracting more independents, which we are already doing.”
Continuing, she blasted the policies of the left and corporatist GOP, namely globalism and open borders, saying, “How many Americans today want our economy tied to China’s? How many are rah-rahing our getting mired in more wars? How many want illegal aliens flooding our country? How many want our government weaponized against political enemies?”
Then, using the facts illuminated by the debate to show the broader trend in the United States toward recognizing what is going on with the corrupt elite, Ingraham said, “It’s happening at a state level tonight. How many people think that Hunter Biden was just an ambitious international capitalist or that his father wasn’t helping him? So, who won the debate last night? The American people won the debate last night. Because we showed, once again, that the Republican party is moving in a new direction.”
Descibing the enemies of the old guard, Ingraham added, “Then there were the representatives of the old Bush-Cheney view of Republicanism, the two center dogs in the fight, of course, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. They both did their best though to appeal to the party’s populous core to score points. Vivek swatted at the old guard Republicans on stage with them.”
Later during the program, Vivek Ramaswamy came on to defend Trump and call out the disastrous state of things in the United States thanks to the weaponization of government, He said, “I think this is shameful, Laura. This is an indictment not of Donald Trump but of our national civic health. That we have gotten to a place where we have a party in power that will use any charge in any jurisdiction, four at the same time, in the middle of an election designed, mark my words, to stop their lead political rival currently from running.”
