Elon Musk is preparing to throw the weight of his political operation behind Republicans as the party fights to retain control of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections. The tech billionaire is reviving America PAC, the super PAC that spent more than $260 million during the 2024 election cycle to help elect President Donald Trump. The renewed operation will concentrate on turning out conservative voters through door-knocking, digital advertising, and direct mail.
The push is designed to reach Republican voters who are less likely to participate when the presidency is not on the ballot. America PAC said its operation knocked on more than 10 million doors across over half a dozen swing states during the 2024 campaign. Musk’s group is expected to work with other Republican organizations, allowing allied groups to devote more of their resources to television advertising while America PAC handles a major share of the voter-turnout effort.
Musk’s return gives Republicans another financial advantage heading into the November 3 elections. Republican committees and super PACs reportedly hold a combined advantage of more than $300 million over their Democratic counterparts, while Trump’s MAGA Inc. super PAC has another $400 million available. GOP leaders hope the money and field organization will help the party overcome the usual midterm difficulties faced by the president’s party.
As Axios reported, Musk’s representatives did not disclose how much he intends to spend this year. His 2024 contributions through America PAC made him the largest individual political donor in a single election cycle in American history, and the scale of his previous spending has created expectations that the new investment will also be substantial.
James Blair, a senior political adviser to President Trump, described America PAC as an important part of the Republican turnout operation during the last presidential campaign. He called the group’s return “a huge boost for Republicans across the country.” Blair said the party and its allies intend to use the revived organization to execute an aggressive turnout strategy between now and Election Day.
Musk has reportedly been discussing the midterm effort with Trump’s political team, and his top political adviser, Chris Young, will lead the America PAC operation. The group will coordinate with other organizations in the Republican campaign network rather than operating as a separate effort. Its focus on field operations and lower-propensity voters could prove especially important in close House and Senate contests where relatively small changes in turnout can determine the result.
The renewed alliance follows a period of tension between Musk and Trump after Musk completed a four-month stint leading the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk criticized the spending contained in Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” and publicly floated the possibility of creating a third party that could oppose Republicans. The relationship later improved, and Musk had resumed contributing to Republican candidates and organizations by the end of 2025.

One of those contributions was a $10 million donation to Kentucky Republican Senate candidate Nate Morris. Morris later left the race to accept a position in the Trump administration, but the donation showed that Musk had already begun reentering Republican politics before the larger America PAC midterm plan emerged. His latest move puts the nationwide organization built for the 2024 presidential campaign back into action, this time for congressional races.
America PAC spokesman Andrew Romeo said Trump’s political team and the broader Republican apparatus had assembled an operation capable of keeping the party competitive in a difficult midterm environment. He said the group was “excited to again be part of the team” as Republicans attempt to retain control of Congress this fall.
