In a hilarious move that embarrassed the mainstream media, Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), played a trick on reporters. Knowing that journalists would take photos of his notepad during a White House meeting, Musk wrote “Top Secret!!” on his scratchpad, instead of his meeting notes.
For context, DOGE was established by President Trump during the opening days of his presidency and charged with ending rampant fraud, waste, and financial abuse in the federal government. Despite several high-profile fraud busts and daily updates, Democrats and their allies in the mainstream media have fought DOGE tooth and nail.
The story broke on April 11, 2025 when Owen Sparks posted the hilarious image to X. He said, “Elon knows the games the media plays, so he decided to mess with them at the cabinet meeting by writing “Top Secret” on his note pad, knowing they would be snapping pics of his notes / phone. š”
In the comments under his post, conservatives laughed at Elon’s clever prank and took jabs at the unscrupulous press. One of the comments read, “Bro continues troll. This is probably one of the ways to beat the left. Their inability to parse out sarcasm from reality is a big weakness. Pretty easy to manipulate them.”
Building on that point, one user expressed frustration with Elon’s coverage in the biased mainstream media. The comment read, “I literally just read a rant by a liberal who whined saying Elon had contributed nothing to society and is only enriching himself. After a person listed his long list of incredible achievements, they still dug in. Itās amazing the way this man has been treated.”
Mocking the journalists who fell for the prank, one of the many comments read, “Classic Elon. Trolls the media better than CNN trolls the truth. Writes āTop Secretā just to watch them panicāand they fell for it like always. Manās not just playing chess, heās designing the board.” Another account said, “Screwing around with the media is like tricking my dog with a fake ball throw… except my dog is smart enough to catch on after a couple of times.”
Charmed by the practical joke, one user expressed their affection for the tech genius, saying, “I love Elon, warts n all, the man has a good heart, good intentions and a grasp on a social conscience that appears to be sorely lacking in his haters….green is definitely their colour š.” Agreeing with the last post, one user said, “Elon is the greatest government aide America has ever had, iām so glad thereās finally a genius in the oval office.”

Rounding out the comments, one account tied this incident to a funny anecdote from their childhood. The reply read, “In the 80s my grade school got their first Apple 2eās. In computer class, I made the screen flash āTOP SECRET. Classified NASA Nuclear Strike Planā over and over. Our 60 year old teacher, who was also still learning this new invention, saw it and freaked out and ran over to hit the power button to turn it off. 𤣔
