According to the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, First Lady Jill Biden racked up a huge, nearly half-million-dollar bill by jetting between Paris, Washington, D.C., and Wilmington, Delaware, where the Hunter Biden trial was held, and the president’s formerly crack-addicted son was found guilty on all counts in the gun trial case.
As background, on the morning of Tuesday, June 11, a federal jury found Hunter Biden guilty on all three federal felony gun charges brought against him. Federal law prevents drug addicts from owning and purchasing firearms, and Hunter Biden was accused of lying on a federal form about his substance abuse when buying a handgun in 2018.
Jill Biden, the First Lady, allegedly racked up a huge flight cost bill by flying between Paris, where President Joe Biden is after being in Normandy, France, for celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasions. Biden, during those celebrations, raised eyebrows and questions about his fitness for the presidency with his “confused” behavior.
According to the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, which spoke about the matter to British tabloid The Daily Mail, Dr. Jill racked up an estimated $345,400 in flight costs when she boomeranged between Paris and Wilmington. She flew, over the past week, first from Washington, D.C., to Wilmington, Delaware. She then flew to Paris, France, then flew back from Paris to Wilmington. She next turned around yet again and flew back to Paris.
In a statement to the Daily Mail regarding her flights, Dr. Jill Biden’s office noted that the government is reimbursed for the cost of the flights if they are not for government use. It said, “In accordance with relevant regulations utilized across administrations, the government is reimbursed the value of a first-class fare for these flights to Wilmington and back to Paris.”
The Daily Mail, adding more context to how the shockingly large, $345,400 figure was reached, noted that, as a First Lady, Dr. Jill can’t take commercial flights and instead flies on the Boeing C-32, which is listed by the United States Air Force as having a $13,816 per hour reimbursable rate, according to the National Taxpayers Union Foundation.
As each of Dr. Jill’s three legs between Wilmington, Deleware and Paris, France, was about 8 hours long, that would mean that the cost of each leg of the trip was $110,528. Therefore, once those are tallied up and the single, one-hour flight she took from D.C. to Wilmington is considered, the total cost of the flight time is $345,400.
Commenting on the cost to the Daily Mail, Demian Brady, the Vice President of Research for the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, said, “The White House should be more transparent about these costs so taxpayers aren’t taken for a ride.” Similarly, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance president, David Williams, said, “While I appreciate that the First Lady wants to support her son during this difficult trial, travel to the trial should be a personal, not a taxpayer expense.”
