According to recent reports, former President Donald Trump is set to attend the funeral of Corey Comperatore, the supporter who was killed during the horrific assassination attempt during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening. Comperatore is remembered as a beloved member of his community, holding titles such as the former fire chief, a husband and father, and a God-fearing man who attended church every Sunday.
The New York Post reported that a source close to the Republican presidential nominee was asked if Trump would attend Comperatore’s funeral, to which he responded, “Of course he is.” In the aftermath of the assassination attempt that claimed the man’s life in the, Corey’s wife Helen acknowledged that Trump had spoken to her on the phone earlier this week.
“He was very kind and said he would continue to call me in the days and weeks ahead,” she said, detailing her conversation with the former president. “I told him the same thing I told everyone else. He left this world a hero and God welcomed him in. He did not die in vain that day.” Corey’s daughter, Allyson Comperatore, also paid tribute to her father who died protecting her.
“My sister and I never needed for anything. You call, he would answer, and he would do whatever it is you needed, and if he didn’t know how he would figure out how,” Allyson said. “He could talk and make friends with anyone, which he was doing all day yesterday and loved every minute of it. He was a man of God, loved Jesus fiercely, and also looked after our church and our members as family,” she added, while maintaining that the media “will not tell you that he died a real-life super hero.”
Allyson stressed that it could not be stressed how much Corey loved his family, demonstrating it through his selfless actions before he was killed. “They are not going to tell you how quickly he threw my mom and I to the ground. They are not going to tell you that he shielded my body from the bullet that came at us,” she continued. “He loved his family. He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us.”
She continued in her post, “And I want nothing more than to cry on him and tell him thank you. I want nothing more than to wake up and for this to not be reality for me and my family.” Allyson further described her father as “selfless” and “loving.” She added, “And I will never stop thinking about him and mourning over him until the day that I die too.”
Corey’s sister also took to Facebook, paying tribute to her late brother. She said, “He was a hero that shielded his daughters. His wife and girls just lived through the unthinkable and unimaginable. My baby brother just turned 50 and had so much life left to experience. Hatred has no limits and love has no bounds. Pray for my sister-in-law, nieces, my mother, sister, me and his nieces and nephews as this feels like a terrible nightmare but we know it is our painful reality.”
