DOJ Sues Critical California County After Exposing Non-Citizens Are Allegedly Voting In Its Elections

In a significant win for election integrity, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) sued Orange County Registrar Bob Page, alleging that he violated federal law by withholding sensitive voter information about 17 noncitizens who had been removed from the voter roll. Building on the claim, the lawsuit alleges that Page concealed data, such as Social Security numbers, although no allegations of non-citizen voting were voiced.

For context, Orange County lawyers argued that state privacy laws forced them to make redactions and offered a confidentiality agreement, which the federal government subsequently ignored. While some county officials made disingenuous pretense claims, others admitted that the country brought this lawsuit upon themselves.

In any case, the DOJ issued a press release summarized the case, writing, “The Justice Department announced today that it has filed a lawsuit against Robert Page, the Orange County Registrar of Voters in Orange County, California for refusing to provide the Justice Department with records pertaining to the removal of non-citizens from its voter registration list and for failing to maintain an accurate voter list in violation of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA).”

Justifying the suit, Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division Harmeet Dhillon said, “Voting by noncitizens is a federal crime. States and counties that refuse to disclose all requested voter information are in violation of well-established federal elections laws.”

Leon Page, the county counsel for Orange County, said that the county had hoped to resolve the complaint through a court order, but “Instead, the USDOJ filed a lawsuit.” Upset by the DOJ’s decisive actions, Supervisor Katrina Foley, a Democrat, whined, “Voter privacy is built into the system and state law prohibits the county from providing private information without a court order.”

However, other local officials were willing to take responsibility. For instance, Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner, one of two Republicans on the board, said, “We invited this lawsuit. The county’s only interest is in having the cleanest possible voter rolls so that every eligible voter may vote, but only eligible voters may vote.”

Taking to social media on June 25, 2025, Justice Department Attorney Harmeet Dhillon said, “Allowing non-citizens to vote in elections is a violation of the American people’s right to determine their future. California is learning the hard way that @TheJusticeDept will always fight for American citizens to vote fairly and freely!”

In the comments under her post, conservatives were enraged by California’s shameful election security. One such comment said, “Why are non-citizens who can’t vote counted in the census that allots the representative seats? American citizens are being disenfranchised when their vote for representation is cancelled out by non-citizens who just happen to be in a district for a head count and cannot even vote.”

Pointing out another issue that needs attention, one commenter added, “Now what can be done to rectify the allocation of Congressional seats based on population of CITIZENS and and not simply the number of PEOPLE residing in a state. Noncitizens—particularly those here illegally— should not have representation in Congress.”

Hoping for harsh consequences, a user stated, “I hope this lawsuit sets a precedent in sufficient time before the mid-terms! These so-called officials are denying American citizens their constitutional rights while giving rights to aliens in our country illegally they’re not entitled to. They need to be charged & prosecuted!”
