In a brave statement from Deputy AG Todd Blanche, the Department of Justice warned California officials, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Gov. Gavin Newsom, AG Rob Bonta, and DA Brooke Jenkins, against a “criminal conspiracy” to arrest ICE agents enforcing federal immigration laws.
Building on this point, he urged California officials to be careful, warning that interference could result in prosecution. In a worrying sign of the times, Pelosi and Rep. Kevin Mullin reacted by arguing federal agents lack immunity and can be arrested for breaking state law.
Starting off his diatribe, Deputy AG Todd Blanche slammed the dishonest and self-interested Democrats. “Rather than supporting and working with federal law enforcement professionals, California politicians, including U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi and San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, have instead called for state and local law enforcement officials to ‘arrest’ federal agents and officers for enforcing federal laws enacted by the U.S. Congress, including federal immigration laws,” he pointed out.
Adding more context about the reaction from the Trump administration, Blanche noted, “The Department of Justice views any arrests of federal agents and officers in the performance of their official duties as both illegal and futile. Numerous federal laws prohibit interfering with and impeding immigration or other law-enforcement operations.”
In conclusion, he made the cost of disobedience clear. “We urge you and other California officials to publicly abandon this apparent criminal conspiracy, to stop threatening law enforcement, and to prioritize the safety of your citizens. Stand down or face prosecution. No one threatens our agents. No one will stop us from Making America Safe Again,” Blanche commanded.
Reacting with a typically theatrical response, Nancy Pelosi and Kevin Mullin whined, “While the President may enjoy absolute immunity courtesy of his rogue Supreme Court, those who operate under his orders do not. Our state and local authorities may arrest federal agents if they break California law — and if they are convicted, the President cannot pardon them.”
Additionally, courageous conservatives, such as American First Legal, have been suing California over its completely unfair sanctuary city laws. As the American Tribune reported, AFL wrote, “States do not have the power to overturn federal law. And under federal law, it is a crime to conceal, harbor, or shield illegal aliens. It is also a federal crime to prevent federal officials from discharging their duties.”

Still not done, AFL kept hammering the woke state. “California’s sanctuary laws require local law enforcement to commit federal crimes. Those sanctuary laws also infringe the free speech rights of law enforcement officers by controlling what they’re allowed to say to the Department of Homeland Security,” a press release read.
Concluding their assertion, the legal group wrote, “California’s illegal alien sanctuary laws effectively prevent local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement authorities, unlawfully shield illegal aliens, and threaten public safety. To protect illegal aliens, the State directs local officials, including the Huntington Beach Police and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, to violate federal immigration and criminal statutes…”
