DOJ Moves To Denaturalize and Deport Naturalized Citizens Convicted of “Heinous Crimes” In Sweeping New Actions

In a powerful new announcement about how it is cracking down and enforcing immigration law to the fullest extent of the law in an attempt to rid America of its worst imported elements, the Trump Administration announced that it would be moving to denaturalize and deport a dozen naturalized citizens who have committed what it referred to as “heinous crimes”.

As background, American immigration law has long provided that those naturalized citizens who commit such crimes or who lied on their immigration forms can, and indeed should, be denaturalized and deported. However, for many years, the government has largely not done so, whether out of pro-immigrant sentiment or out of a lack of resources devoted to tracking naturalized citizens and what they are up to or are revealed to have done.

The Trump Administration is finally reversing course on that and cracking down on naturalized citizens with serious offenses in their past, along with those who have been caught lying on their immigration forms, as many conservatives allege Ilhan Omar did, which suggests that she might face removal action as well.

In any case, announcing the new set of denaturalization actions it is taking to target 12 heinous individuals, the Trump Department of Justice said, “The Department of Justice announced today that it filed denaturalization actions in various U.S. district courts against 12 individuals accused of serious offenses—including providing material support to a terrorist group, committing war crimes, and s*xually abusing a minor.”

Continuing, the statement noted that denaturalization is allowed in situations like these, saying, “Under the Immigration and Nationality Act, a naturalized U.S. citizen’s citizenship may be revoked, and certificate of naturalization canceled, if the naturalization was illegally procured or procured by concealment of a material fact or by willful misrepresentation.”

The statement later described the 12 naturalized citizens it is attempting to denaturalize and deport. As one example, the first such case was that of Ali Yousif Ahmed Al-Nouri, a middle-aged man from Iraq, who entered America during the Obama Administration.

Describing what is going on with him and what he is alleged to have done before being granted asylum and naturalization by the Obama Administration, the statement then said, “On Friday, May 8, 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice and the United States Attorney for the District of Arizona filed a civil denaturalization complaint in the United States District Court in Phoenix, Arizona, against Ali Yousif Ahmed, a native of Iraq. Ahmed entered the United States in 2009 based on a claim that he and his family were attacked by Al-Qaeda terrorists in Iraq. In 2019, the Republic of Iraq requested that the United States extradite Ahmed to Iraq to face criminal charges for the premediated murder of two Iraqi police officers in 2006. Iraq claims that Ahmed murdered the police officers as a leader in the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization. Upon further investigation, United States learned that, in 2015, Ahmed illegally procured his naturalization, which warrants his denaturalization, because he lied under oath about his criminal and family history when he sought admission to the United States and naturalized as a U.S. citizen.”

Chiming in to add context about this campaign against the heinous migrants who were allowed to obtain naturalization, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said, “Individuals implicated in committing fraud, heinous crimes such as s*xual abuse, or expressing support for terrorism should never have been naturalized as United States citizens.”

He added, “The Trump administration is taking action to correct these egregious violations of our immigration system. Those who intentionally concealed their criminal histories or misrepresented themselves during the naturalization process will face the fullest extent of the law.”

Similarly, Assistant Attorney General Brett A. Shumate of the Justice Department’s Civil Division, said, “This Department of Justice continues to file denaturalization actions at record speeds to restore integrity in our naturalization process. The disturbing criminal histories confirm these individuals should have never received the privilege of U.S. citizenship. We remain committed to leveraging every tool available under the law to pursue those who obtain their U.S. citizenship unlawfully.”
