DOJ Cracks Down on Gavin Newsom’s California after Catching It Providing Taxpayer-Funded College Tuition Benefits for Illegal Aliens

Marking a significant win for America, the U.S. Department of Justice sued California Gov. Gavin Newsom over a state law granting in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants, pointing out how it discriminates against out-of-state U.S. citizens by violating federal protections.

For context, this is the third DOJ lawsuit against Newsom in a week, following actions on gerrymandering and ICE mask bans. Critics like Minnesota AG Keith Ellison argue that the DOJ misreads the law, insisting that citizens have access to equal benefits.

Fighting back, Newsom’s office dismissed the suits as “meritless” and “politically motivated,” vowing to defend them in court. A DOJ official accused Newsom of flouting federal rules to “ruin California,” escalating the long-running feud between the rogue state of California and the Trump adminsitraion.

Starting their initial salvo, the DOJ noted, “California is illegally discriminating against American students and families by offering exclusive tuition benefits for non-citizens. This marks our third lawsuit against California in one week — we will continue bringing litigation against California until the state ceases its flagrant disregard for federal law.”

A DOJ official noted, “From racial gerrymandering, to undermining law enforcement, to discriminating against American students, Newsom has flagrantly disregarded federal law in his quest to ruin California. We will see him in court as many times as necessary.”

Additionally, the DOJ objected to “Unequal treatment” that was “squarely” at odds with federal law, which makes it crystal clear that people unlawfully living in the United States cannot be given free tuition based on their residence that U.S. citizens are not also entitled to.

Bitterly responding, a Newsom spokesperson whined about this flurry of lawsuits, saying, “The DOJ has now filed three meritless, politically motivated lawsuits against California in a single week. Good luck, Trump. We’ll see you in court.”

Firing back, Pam Bondi used Newsom’s words against him. “Last night @TheJusticeDept sued Gavin Newsom and California for the third time in seven days. California is DISCRIMINATING against American students by offering tuition benefits for non-citizens. California is yet again flagrantly disregarding federal law. We will see them in court,” the AG tweeted.

When news of this lawsuit spread on social media, users celebrated the move. One comment noted, “The federal government has finally moved against one of Sacramento’s most indefensible policies: forcing American taxpayers to subsidize college for illegal aliens while charging most U.S. citizens.”

Another conservative replied directly to Bondi, calling for increased accountability. “Why is he not under investigation for hindering the enforcement of federal immigration law? Where are the other investigations? Please hold them accountable,” the woman pleaded.

However, some users were frustrated with the lack of criminal charges. A disheartened consumer asked, “At what point do you actually do something about the crimes being committed in this country, or do we just keep sending mean letters?”

However, woke California bureaucrats promised to continue this discriminatory practice. Dr. Daisy Gonzales of the CA Student Aid Commission said,  “For our undocumented students, students from mixed-status families, and students from immigrant families, please know that California’s financial aid programs remain fully accessible to you.”
