DOJ Begins Criminal Probe into Trump Accuser E. Jean Carroll Over Outside Funding Lie

Things aren’t looking great for Trump accuser E. Jean Carroll, who is facing a serious Department of Justice investigation into her over lies she told about the funding for her legal attacks against President Donald J. Trump. Particularly, it had been discovered that billionaire Democratic donor Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, was involved in funding her legal attacks on Trump.

Such is what reports into the new DOJ investigation have revealed, with federal investigators reportedly examining a non-profit linked to Hoffman, American Future Republic, over claims that it helped cover Carroll’s civil litigation efforts against the president. Such is pertinent because, when being deposed, she claimed not to be receiving outside funding to help with the legal fight.

As background, Carroll won two civil judgments against President Trump, with juries finding him liable for sexual abuse and defamation. President Trump has consistently denied her claims and pursued appeals, insisting that the matter is a witch hunt meant to get him and punish him for his MAGA agenda rather than a just outcome. Carroll’s combined awards totaled about $88 million.

So, investigators are now investigating Carroll, as during a 2022 deposition conducted as part of the trial and case, Carroll was asked who, if anyone, was funding her legal effort and said that there was no outside party paying her legal fees. It then came out that, in reality, the Hoffman-linked non-profit had helped cover some of her legal fees. It appears that the investigation is primarily targeting the non-profit rather than Carroll.

Predictably, Democrats and “moderates” have gone berserk about the matter. For example, one former Senate staffer who now runs an NGO focused on “rule of law” told The Hill, “Ordinarily, I would hesitate to prejudge any DOJ criminal investigation, but this is now after a well-established pattern of the Justice Department launching specious criminal investigations and indictments against the president’s critics.

Continuing to clutch his pearls, the former staffer then insisted, “I think one could only assume that this investigation fits within this pattern, that this investigation reflects a Justice Department eager to punish people who have had the temerity to criticize the president or in any other way challenge his authority.”

Building on that, he acted as if their is no merit to the case despite the exceedingly clear evidence that Carroll did not tell the truth during the deposition, which is perjury, and thus illegal. He said, “The idea that a successful plaintiff in a civil suit against the president would be a target for criminal investigation is remarkable.”

Concluding, the former Senate staffer insisted that the RINOs in the Senate need to now cause even more problems for President Trump, telling The Hill, “What the president is doing with the Justice Department in these prosecutions is completely indefensible, and his strongest defenders tend to say that the president is just doing to Democrats what Democrats did to him, which is, in other words, to implicitly say, ‘This is wrong, we’re just doing it, too’”
