In a social media post on March 6, 2025, President Donald Trump commanded all of his cabinet secretaries to cooperate with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). He said that DOGE needs to act carefully in a manner he compared to a scalpel. The president confirmed that all of his secretaries will be meeting regularly with Elon Musk until a significant number of employees are let go.
“The Golden Age of America has just begun! Over the past six weeks, our Administration has delivered on promises like no Administration before it, always putting America First! DOGE has been an incredible success, and now that we have my Cabinet in place,” President Trump posted to his Truth Social page. “I have instructed the Secretaries and Leadership to work with DOGE on Cost Cutting measures and Staffing.”
“As the Secretaries learn about, and understand, the people working for the various Departments, they can be very precise as to who will remain, and who will go. We say the “scalpel” rather than the “hatchet.” The combination of them, Elon, DOGE, and other great people will be able to do things at a historic level,” he continued in his post.
“We just had a meeting with most of the Secretaries, Elon, and others, and it was a very positive one. It’s very important that we cut levels down to where they should be, but it’s also important to keep the best and most productive people,” Trump explained. “We’re going to have these meetings every two weeks until that aspect of this very necessary job is done.”
“The relationships between everybody in that room are extraordinary. They all want to get to the exact same place, which is, simply, to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” concluded Trump. DOGE and Musk have come under fire from democrats for their cost-cutting measures. The South African billionaire has promised to cut $1 trillion in federal spending. Democrats have accused the President of giving too much power to Musk.
Musk recently met with house republicans to discuss his ambitious cost cutting goals. “The executive DOGE team is confident, they think they can get $1 trillion,” one insider familiar with the meeting told Fox News Digital. “Now, we’ll see, right? And the thing is, he acknowledged that we’re going to make mistakes, but we’re going to correct them very quickly.” Another employee at the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office told the same outlet his opinion.
“Protests will not deter President Trump and Elon Musk from delivering on the promise to establish DOGE and make our federal government more efficient and more accountable to the hardworking American taxpayers across the country,” Harrison Fields said. Despite the protests, Musk and Trump are united in their goal of draining the swamp.
