In a recently unearthed letter, Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Subcommittee Chairwoman Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene investigated the rampant abuse DOGE discovered in the Voice of America (VOA) news network.
For context, VOA, which was managed by the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), was defunded when President Donald Trump signed an executive order titled ‘CONTINUING THE REDUCTION OF THE FEDERAL BUREAUCRACY,’ which slashed funding to VOA. Reports indicate that all employees at the ultra-woke agency have been placed on executive leave.
Beginning her letter to Kari Lake, whom Trump tapped to preside over VOA, MTG blasted the program’s “gross negligence” and “rampant cronyism” and said it was a “direct threat to national security.” MTG also mentioned that there were “serious allegations of corruption, financial mismanagement, and national security failures” surrounding the controversial news agency.
Building on this point, the conservative congresswoman savaged VOA for their failure to respect sensitive documents. She wrote of the “gross negligence and intentional defiance of national security protocols, resulting in unfettered and unauthorized access of sensitive information by federal employees.”
Concluding her letter, Greene harshly criticized the agency for its unaccountable actions. Rep. Greene stated, “For years, USAGM engaged in rampant cronyism, issuing corrupt contracts to friends and family through the Open Technology Fund (OTF), while senior officials bypassed security protocols, mishandled sensitive information, and obstructed investigations.”
As we reported, Kari Lake explained her decision to fire hundreds of VOA employees in a video posted to her X account. She began, “I’m sitting on the 13th floor of a shiny, brand-new skyscraper office building that is costing you, the taxpayer, a fortune. The Biden administration, folks who were running this agency before, right before they left office, signed a brand new lease for this building, a 15-year lease that’s going to cost the taxpayer nearly a quarter of a billion dollars.”
Offering examples, she explained, “And I can tell you that this building is a colossal waste of money. Take a look at what’s in this building. Fancy conference rooms with wall-to-wall windows. There are 26 conference rooms, at least. That’s what I’ve counted in this building: there are four bridges to nowhere, massive waterfalls, Italian marble finishes everywhere, leather furnishings, all of this being paid for by the American taxpayer.”

Adding to her argument, Lake noted how VOA habitually wasted federal funds. She said, “And it’s not the only thing we’ve seen. We are seeing grants where they’ve taken the grants and they’ve changed the contracts just days before we got in here to make it find out where the money’s going and what’s happening with these grantees. It was an obvious, obvious sign that they wanted to keep us from finding out anything that we could possibly go in and change and make better for the American taxpayer.
Wrapping up her statement, she promised to end this pattern of waste. She concluded, “I want you to know I’m hard at work here in Washington, DC. I’m working to make sure that we are not being built out of our hard-earned dollars, and we’re going to make sure we’re doing everything we can to cancel the Save Money downsize and make sure there’s no misuse of your dollars.”
