Users on social media recently claimed that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) had discovered over $165 million in funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that was given to what some have described as “terrorist-linked organizations.”
As part of the DOGE’s mission to rein in the federal government, the Trump administration has postured to substantially downsize USAID and potentially cut thousands of jobs within the organization. Elon Musk, who leads DOGE, has even suggested that the entire agency be shut down.
Conservative commentator James Jinnette reported on the alleged findings on X, writing, “Are you ready to have your mind blown? USAID has given a total of… wait for it… $164,749,304.99 to terrorist linked organizations. ONE HUNDRED SIXTY-FIVE MILLION Thank goodness @DOGE came along and discovered all of this insanity.”
Another person wrote, “That’s absolutely insane. $165 million in taxpayer money going to terror-linked organizations? No wonder DOGE’s investigations are making waves, this kind of waste and corruption needs to be fully exposed. Glad someone is finally digging into where our money is actually going. Time for real accountability. 
”
Another user voiced their frustration with the discovery, posting, “It’s shit like this that pisses me off to no end. One way or another they saw to it that we would fund terrorism. We want our money back. We want the people who put our money into the hands of terror to be arrested & jailed. Every rent payment you’re scraping the barrel to pay every month and every food item that you had to put back on the shelf because you couldn’t afford to buy it remember that they spent hundreds of billions of our tax dollars on everyone who didn’t earn it to foreign countries who don’t deserve it, while you’re paying for it,” another person commented.

The American Tribune reported on Musk highlighting the need for DOGE while on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania last year. “The amount of waste that happens with the federal government is really staggering. It’s a staggering amount of waste of taxpayer money,” he said, highlighting how big the problem is just days before the election.
“We have to say, Well, what does this do for the citizens of America? How is this good for people in America? That’s it’s their money,” he added. “For some weird reason, a lot of people in the state, or whatever the politicians, they seem to forget that money being spent is, is your money.”
“And if it’s not spending, being spent in a way that is beneficial to the American people, it’s a misuse of the funds. I mean, there’s this, there’s a lot of money that’s being spent where we’re sort of illegals are getting more benefits than citizens like that that doesn’t make any sense,” Musk continued.
