A doctor in Wyoming recently claimed that Democratic opponents of President Donald Trump are suffering from severe mental crises after his monumental win in the 2024 election last year. Dr. Glenn Burnett recently spoke with journalist Mark Halperin, noting what he has observed among those who are not handling the new administration well.
According to Burnett, many of his left-of-center patients have been mentally devastated by Vice President Kamala Harris’ defeat in November. As a result, he has advised his patients to shut off digital devices to reset their mental health and disconnect from the news cycle. The doctor opined that the source of the mental health issues stems from fears that Trump will wield political power.
“We are dealing with depression, anxiety, all kinds of medical problems that are related to that, like insomnia, chest pain, chest pressure,” he explained to Halperin. “And then people are that there’s some genuine fear, panic.” He added, “I think it has a lot to do with Donald Trump and the fears of what he’s going to do or what’s happening in the country.”
However, Burnett noted that he also observed mental health woes among Republicans during former President Joe Biden’s term. “When Biden was the president. I had all kinds of stuff from the other side, but it has been extremely intense … after the election.” Burnett said he advises patients to detox from political news to help with their symptoms.
“The first thing I tell them to do is to turn their computers off and turn their televisions off,” the doctor said. “The next thing I tell them to do is, if you have had an issue with your family and a lot of them have that, that is so much more important than Kamala Harris or Donald Trump,” he said, “and you need to begin to make amends.” He added, “I am really hesitant to give people medication for this because I think it’s a grief problem, mainly.”
In October, The American Tribune reported on comments from Mark Halperin during an interview with Tucker Carlson, during which he predicted that if Trump won the election it would spark the “greatest mental health crisis in the history of the country.” The journalist claimed it would lead to a massive deterioration in social cohesion.
“I say this not flippantly. I think it will be the cause of the greatest mental health crisis in the history of the country. Tens of millions of people will question their connection to the nation … to other human beings … to their vision to what their future for them and their children could be like. And that will require an enormous amount of access to mental health professionals,” he said.

Halperin said that Trump’s win would “lead to trauma in the workplace, alcoholism, broken marriages.” Illustrating how disastrous it would be, Halperin added, “And it will be sustained, unprecedented, and hideous.” He added, “I think it will be less anger and more a failure to understand how it could happen. Like the death of a child… Something that is so traumatic that it’s impossible for even the most mentally healthy person to process and incorporate it into their daily life.”
