A House Oversight Committee meeting Tuesday became heated after Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) referred to Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) as a “child” when arguing about the GOP Congresswoman’s activism to defend biological women. Firing back at Crockett, Mace informed the Texas Democrat if she would like to take the conversation “outside.”
As background, the incident occurred during a meeting to approve rules for the House panel and bring in new members. However, the committee descended into chaos when Crockett criticized Mace’s efforts to ban transgender individuals from using female facilities at the US Capitol, suggesting they were done solely to bolster campaign fundraising.
“I can see that somebody’s campaign coffers really are struggling right now,” Crockett said, calling out Mace. “So she’s gonna keep saying trans, trans, trans, so that people will feel threatened.” Continuing, Crockett said, “And child, listen…” before Mace immediately interjected, defending herself from the snide comment from her colleague.
“I am no child! Do not call me a child!” Mace firmly said. “I am no child. Don’t even start. I am a grown woman. I am 47 years old,” she added. As the two congresswomen argued over top of each other, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer repeatedly slammed his gavel, attempting to restore order to the room. “You will not do that. I am not a child. If you want to take it outside, we can do that,” Mace maintained.
In light of Mace’s remark, Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-Fla.) moved to strike down the remark. However, Comer argued that it did not necessarily constitute a threat. “What the gentlelady said … that could mean we can go outside and have a cup of coffee, or maybe a beer – we have lots of conversations outside,” he said.
The American Tribune previously reported on a violent attack against Mace at the Capitol, appearing to have been motivated by her agenda to protect women’s rights. According to reports, the South Carolina Republican was accosted and intimidated by a “pro-trans man.” The suspect was arrested by US Capitol Police officers.
Mace said, “I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women. Capitol police have arrested him. All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe. Your threats will not stop my fight for women! #HoldTheLine” She said in another statement, ” “I was physically accosted at the Capitol tonight by a pro-tr*ns man. One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine. The Capitol police arrested the guy. Your tr*ns violence and threats on my life will only make me double down. FAFO. #HoldTheLine””

The GOP congresswoman further illustrated what she has endured because of her political views, stating, “Since speaking up to protect women’s safety: – I’ve received horrific death threats – Faced relentless verbal attacks – Been told by activists they will continue to violate women’s rights – Had a pro-tr*ns activist rush the stage during a speaking engagement – Witnessed threats directed at my staff simply for working for me – Received thousands of hateful and threatening messages via text, social media, phone, email, etc – And now I’ve been physically accosted. If I am enduring this many threats and facing this level of danger, how are women across this country supposed to feel safe in any space? #HoldTheLine”
