Disney has recently come under fire for seeking to hire a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) director who could earn a salary up to four times higher than the national average income further to push a woke corporate agenda at the entertainment giant. In recent years, Disney has faced substantial criticism from conservatives for involving itself as a company in the culture war.
According to reports, the Walt Disney Company listed a job posting for a DEI director position that advertised a salary in the range of nearly $198,000 to a maximum of over $241,000. Notably, in 2024, the average American earns roughly $59,428 annually. Over the past few years, conservatives have questioned the value DEI executives provide and why they should be given such exorbitant salaries.
The job description in the Disney job posting read, “We’re seeking a Director of Strategic External Engagement – Enterprise DEI to lead our efforts in building strategic relationships with external stakeholders, driving community engagement, and generating valuable insights to support our diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) objectives.”
Will Hild, Executive Director of Consumers’ Research, a consumer protection non-profit organization, blasted DEI in the corporate environment. “DEI is a scam. It is by definition an attack on competence, replacing it with the barest of bean counting racism and sexism. There is zero value added by paying a DEI officer a quarter of a million dollars per year to enforce left-wing ideology. DEI departments add nothing to a company’s bottom line,” he said.
Hild specifically called out Disney for its DEI initiatives, claiming the company is sacrificing success to pursue the “woke mind virus.” “That Disney is doubling down on DEI instead of desperately trying to right their sinking financial ship by abandoning explicitly political storytelling tells you just how captured by the woke mind virus a once-great American company truly is,” he said.
The executive director at Consumer’s Research further noted that companies refuse to back down from these leftist agenda because of a “narrow circle of Ivy League-educated Human Resources managers” who are responsible for staffing companies while obsessed with wokeness. “Consumers shouldn’t underestimate the importance of contacting the companies to express their disapproval, and criticizing or mocking them on social media,” he added.
Disney has already been exposed for pursuing DEI-based hiring practices, where O’Keefe Media Group discovered that the company was discriminating against white males. “I have friends in HR and I have friends in other divisions. And they’re like, ‘Look, nobody else is going to tell you this, Mike, but they’re not considering any white males for the job,’” former senior vice president Michael Giordano told an undercover journalist.
The American Tribune previously reported on conservative commentator Megyn Kelly who blasted Disney for infusing woke content in its entertainment, suggesting it was responsible for the massive box office flops the company has endured in recent years. “Apparently, there’s an analysis out there showing that films like Lightyear, in which they decided to make Buzz Lightyear gay. The Little Mermaid, which is now woke…elemental, that’s one of the ones that includes a non-binary character which has one of the worst openings ever. Worst opening weekend in company history. We could go down the list,” Kelly said.
