Two prominent Fox News Channel personalities, Trey Gowdy and Brian Kilmeade, are facing some major backlash after they went on an on-air rant about the supposed flaws of Matt Gaetz, the former Congressman (R-FL) tapped by President-Elect Donald Trump to be Attorney General.
Gowdy, who used to be a congressman and now hosts Fox News Channel, attacked Gaetz on Thursday morning, November 14, attacking both the former congressman’s leadership style and Gaetz’s motivations. His rant came shortly after President-elect Trump announced on Truth Social that Gaetz is his AG pick.
As background, President-Elect Trump said, “It is my Great Honor to announce that Congressman Matt Gaetz, of Florida, is hereby nominated to be The Attorney General of the United States. Matt is a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William & Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice. Few issues in America are more important than ending the partisan Weaponization of our Justice System.”
He continued, “Matt will end Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations and restore Americans’ badly-shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department. On the House Judiciary Committee, which performs oversight of DOJ, Matt played a key role in defeating the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, and exposing alarming and systemic Government Corruption and Weaponization. He is a Champion for the Constitution and the Rule of Law. Matt will root out the systemic corruption at DOJ, and return the Department to its true mission of fighting Crime, and upholding our Democracy and Constitution. We must have Honesty, Integrity, and Transparency at DOJ. Under Matt’s leadership, all Americans will be proud of the Department of Justice once again.”
In any case, beginning his rant, Gowdy characterized Gaetz as unlikable and near-impossible to confirm, saying, “The more you get to know Pete Hegseth and Tulsi Gabbard, the more you’re gonna like her. The more you get to know Matt Gaetz, the less you’re gonna like him. I’m gonna be really surprised if he can get confirmed.”
Chiming in, Brian Kilmeade, host of FNC’s flagship morning show, “Fox & Friends,” agreed. He said, “Right, and so would I. Especially after how he blew up Kevin McCarthy with no plan B. You thought it was a lethal blow to the House majority, but it turns out America really wanted Republicans in charge. So we’ll see where that goes.” Watch them here:
As could be expected, both were eviscerated by commenters online over what they said about Gaetz, who is beloved by the MAGA coalition. One commenter, for example, turned Gowdy’s comments about Gaetz against him and said, “The more I hear Trey Gowdy the more I dislike him.”
The Johnny MAGA X account, sounding off on the two FNC personalities and what they were using their platform to do, wrote, “Both Trey Gowdy and Brian Kilmeade were trashing Matt Gaetz on Fox News this morning. Absolutely disgraceful and total slap in the face of the viewers who support this network.”
Also chiming in was a commenter on Johnny MAGA’s post who noted that Gowdy always talked a big game and then did nothing whatsoever of use to the GOP base, writing, “Trey Gowdy proved himself a paper tiger. He talked a good game but never fought when it really mattered. Reminds me of Jim Jordan.”
