Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) has been a staunch advocate of securing the southern border with Mexico. Under the Biden administration, it is estimated that millions of illegal immigrants have poured into the American interior.
Sen. Kennedy shared a video from a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing that occurred last year, where he pressed United States Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas on the ongoing border crisis at the border.
The Louisiana Republican held Mayorkas accountable during the hearing, inquiring what the Department of Homeland Security is doing to mitigate problems such as fentanyl coming into the United States and the millions of known “gotaways” where illegal migrants evaded border security.
At one point in the speech, Kennedy inquired if Mayorkas had “parachuted in from another planet,” alleging that he must have been the only person not realizing the severity of the border crisis. “Did you just parachute in from another planet, Mr. Secretary? Because you’re the only person in the Milky Way who believes that we’re not having mass, massive illegal immigration into America?”
Mayorkas vehemently disagreed with Kennedy’s assertion, alleging that it was not a genuine description of his stance on the border. “Senator, you’re, you’re putting words into my mouth,” Mayorkas responded. However, Kennedy hit back, “No sir, I’m accurately describing the situation.” The DHS secretary continued in disagreement, “There is no question that we have a very serious challenge at our southern border. It is a challenge.”
Earlier in the hearing, the senator laid out several problems plaguing the United States, charging Mayorkas with failing to uphold his duty of securing the border. “My job is to worry about the United States,” Kennedy explained to Mayorkas.
Kennedy called out the Biden administration, citing record-breaking encounters at the southern border along with known “gotaways.” The senator further claimed that we had had the most illegal immigration, the most turned-down asylum seekers who stay illegally, and the most fentanyl coming over the border in the history of America.
“Under the Biden administration, we have the most encounters. We have had the most encounters with people attempting to come into our country illegally in the history of ever. Under the Biden administration, we have had the most people entering our country illegally in the history of ever. Under the Biden administration, we have had the most got away at our southern border in the history of ever. Under the Biden administration, we have had the most number of people entering our country under a claim of asylum, having that claim turned down, and still not being deported in the history of ever. And under the Biden administration, we’ve had the most fentanyl coming into our country in the history history of ever,” he said.
Kennedy noted that it is a preposterous assumption to suggest that the southern border is even remotely secure amid these shocking statistics. “How can you possibly say the southern border secure? I understand your answer that you’re trying, but I’m not asking about your efforts. I’m asking about the results,” he said.
