Infamous wokester and Squad member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is in hot water after she not only called for abolishing ICE, but based her argument on a now-retracted NBC News story claiming ICE used a 5-year-old autistic girl as “bait” to arrest her father, Edwards Hip Mejia.
Firing back, DHS official Tricia McLaughlin refuted her claims and pointed to the prior domestic abuse charges of Mejia, a Guatemalan illegal immigrant. Additionally, she noted that he abandoned his daughter in the car during the arrest.
In any case, the scandal began when Omar reacted to a now retracted claim from NBC News, which read, “Immigration and Customs Enforcement with a 5-year-old girl, whose mother says she is autistic, while agents attempted to arrest her father near their Massachusetts home.” Giving her take on this situation, Omar said, “This is vile and beyond cruel. Abolish ICE.”
Further confusing the narrative, the girl’s mother made baseless claims about the situation in the same initial article. According to a translator, she alleged, “They took my daughter, she’s 5 years old. She has autism spectrum. Give me my daughter back.”
Once the false narrative had been exposed, NBC News was forced to issue a retraction. “An earlier version of this article mischaracterized the activities of ICE agents in the video. The article has been updated,” the agency wrote.
Firing back at the biased media coverage and Omar’s wild accusations, Tricia McLaughlin, DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, issued a confident statement. She said, “This is a vile lie [Ilhan Omar’s] habitual lies and demonization of our law enforcement is what’s cruel.”
Digging into the specifics, she blasted the DNC narrative. “ICE agents NEVER used a 5-year-old girl as ‘bait.’ The criminal illegal alien target —with previous arrests for domestic abuse and strangulation, among other charges—ABANDONED his own child in a car,” McLaughlin explained.

Unfortunately, as we reported, even those who describe themselves as Republicans are known to make up stories about ICE. For example, Fox News host Trey Gowdy speculated the gunman who took shots at an ICE detention center may have been a MAGA supporter targeting detainees for “his own form of due process.
Starting off his absurd claims, the RINO said, “To know the motive, you’ve gotta know the target. Or… or, was he implementing his own form of due process for these detainees and killing them? Due process does not include a citizen taking a shot at somebody — no matter how long they’ve been in the country illegally.”
However, online conservatives were unwilling to let Gowdy get away with this lazy rhetoric. “Trey Gowdy says young white males may need guns taken after the trans shooting and said that if the Dallas ICE shooter was targeting detainees then that needs to be dealt with he doesn’t have the right to shoot them regardless of due process or how long they’re here illegally etc. I’m like wtf why are you saying this,” one conservative wrote.
