Details Emerge about Pam Bondi’s Suit against Letitia James

More details have emerged in US Attorney General Pam Bondi’s lawsuit against several high-ranking officials in the ultra-woke state of New York. Bondi filed a civil suit because of the so-called ‘green-light law,’ which not only allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses but shields their DMV records from federal authorities. The AG confirmed that she would continue to pursue jurisdictions that seek to defy the President’s immigration laws with the harshest possible punishments.

For reference, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has repeatedly slapped non-complaint blue states with legal action for their immigration policies. Just a few weeks before this lawsuit was filed on Feb 12, 2025, Bondi went after the state of Illinois for a similar woke policy. Each of her suits was based on the argument that these states infringe on the Federal government’s ability to curb illegal immigration.

In the lawsuit, the DOJ explains why New York’s laws are too dangerous to be left on the books. The suit reads, “By intent and design, the Green Light Law is a frontal assault on the federal immigration laws and the federal authorities that administer them. More than that, the Law has had dangerous consequences—precisely because it has worked as intended.”

In a video announcing the suit, Bondi explains why she’s going after specified members of the state government. She said, “We’ve personally sued the governor, the Attorney General, Letitia James, and Mark Schroeder with DMV because he has the green light laws. So what they have to do is start complying with federal law. If they don’t, we’re going to appeal it, and we will win. They have to comply with federal law.”

The DOJ says that DMV records are essential to keeping our law enforcement officers safe. The lawsuit explains, “From vehicle stops to border crossings to executing arrests and searches, immigration authorities depend on these records to assess in real-time the situations they face and the people they encounter. But New York’s Green Light Law deprives them of this insight and, in turn, unnecessarily forces brave law enforcement officers into dangerous and uncertain circumstances.”

Before they went after Letitia James and the state of New York, Bondi took a swing at  Illinois for the Trust Act, which restricts the freedom of ICE agents within the state. According to the first suit, these laws “have the purpose and effect of making it more difficult for, and deliberately impeding, federal immigration officers’ ability to carry out their responsibilities in those jurisdictions.”

Bondi referenced her first lawsuit when explaining why she sued New York. She said, “New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops. It stops today. As you know, we sued Illinois, and New York didn’t listen. So now you’re next. Millions of illegal aliens with violent records have flooded into our communities, bringing violence and deadly drugs with them.”

She let other blue states, who might want to defy the president, know they could be next. She concluded, “President Trump has directed this to stop. And if you don’t comply with federal law, we will hold you accountable. We did it to an Illinois Strike one. Strike two is New York, and if you are a state not complying with federal law, you’re next. Get ready.”
