Former President Donald Trump recently picked up yet another endorsement from a major GOP donor ahead of the 2024 election. Key figures in Republican politics continue to signal their support for Trump as other Republican challengers struggle to keep up in the polls.
Successful businessman Robert Bigelow, owner of Budget Suites and founder of Bigelow Aerospace, has been one of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ most prominent donors. However, Bigelow recently indicated he is now supporting Donald Trump’s campaign as DeSantis is “not strong enough” to fulfill the duties as President of the United States.
“At this point in time, we need the guy in the White House who scares the hell out of every other leader in the world who intends to do harm [to] to this country,” Bigelow said. The businessman has been critical of Trump in the past but claims that despite being “egotistical” and “bombastic,” he is the presidential material the country needs.
However, Bigelow maintains reservations about the legal predicament that Trump faces ahead of the upcoming election. He has stated that Trump must “get out of the kangaroo court problems that he’s involved in” to avoid imprisonment.
“I’m pro-Trump. Right now I’m determined to remain on the sidelines for the time being to see how these prosecutions play out,” Bigelow stated. “I have to be sure that he does not have a position where the prosecution has a path to send him to jail.” He added, “He’s got to stay out of jail. You can’t run the United States from jail.”
After announcing he would drop his support for DeSantis, Bigelow claims he did not hear from the Florida Governor’s campaign for two weeks. The businessman says DeSantis neglected to personally reach out to him, having his wife call instead. “I didn’t take her call,” Bigelow said. “I felt it was Ron’s responsibility. It wasn’t his wife’s. I think it’s indicative of not good thinking to ignore a large donor like that.”
The American Tribune recently reported on another significant endorsement Trump received from conservative business icon Bernie Marcus. The 94-year-old Home Depot co-founder threw his support behind former President Trump, stating he is what America needs to fix our broken political system. Marcus outlined how dire the circumstances are for the trajectory of America, urging Republicans to back Donald Trump.
“I am 94 years old and like many of you, I am exhausted by politics and saddened by what I see happening to America. I had hoped it was time for me to move to the sidelines and let younger generations continue the fight to preserve America’s founding freedoms and values. But, like so many of us, I realized that I could not let myself walk away; the stakes are just too high,” Marcus said. The business legend continued, “For Republicans, the choice is also simple. Let’s face it: Donald Trump is going to win the nomination. You should be doing all you can to ensure his winning the general election.”
“For these reasons, I endorse Donald J. Trump as the nominee of the Republican Party and as our next President. I endorse him not only because he has the best chance of winning the general election but because he is the best person to take on and dismantle the administrative state that is strangling America,” he added.
