Democrats Go Berserk after Rough String of Supreme Court Losses

Things have generally gone less than ideally for the left in this turn of the Supreme Court calendar, as SCOTUS handed the Trump administration two key immigration wins: the 6-3 decision in Mullin v. Doe in which it ruled that Haitian and Syrian nationals with Temporary Protected Status cannot use federal courts to delay the loss of their TPS status when the admin revokes it, and a ruling that migrants who get turned away at the southern border before physically entering the United States are not entitled to apply for asylum.

As could be predicted, the political left went absolutely ballistic over that ruling, losing it over the major win for border enforcement and executive power that the Trump White House won in the highest court in the land, particularly given how the Haitian and Somalian TPS issue has become a political football.

For example, New York quickly became a bastion of pro-migrant, anti-Trump sentiment.Gov. Kathy Hochul declared that the state would be, in response to the rulings, designating “sensitive locations” to block ICE agents from dealing with the Somalis and Haitians who have had their TPS status revoked, amongst others.

She said, framing rejecting federal immigration law as an important New York value, “This is New York. We fight back. We defend our people. For those who think they can come here and just tell us that that’s going to be the different way that it is, you got to get to us first.”

Also chiming in was far-left New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, who declared, “This is another day in Trump’s America where we have someone in the White House who believes in fascist rules with a White supremacist lens.” Williams continued, “He is doing that because his policies are based on treating people like they are not human beings, particularly if they’re Black and Brown.”

Similarly, Zohran Mamdani chimed in and said, “The Supreme Court just sparked one of the largest attacks on immigrants in modern American history. In one fell swoop, thousands of Haitians and Syrians now risk losing the right to live and work in the country they call home.” He added, “To the tens of thousands of New Yorkers with TPS who are watching the news, frightened about what comes next, hear me clearly: New York City is your home. You belong here. We will not turn our backs on you.”

And it wasn’t just in New York. Gov. Maura Healey of Massachusetts, a far-left governor if ever there was one, said, “Today’s decision upholding Donald Trump’s cruel and harmful policy makes absolutely no sense and only serves to hurt our immigrant families, our communities, and our economy. Massachusetts stands with our Haitian and Syrian communities today and every day…My administration is reviewing the full implications of this decision and will continue working closely with Attorney General Campbell, community organizations, employers and state agencies to support affected families. Massachusetts will continue standing up for all of our communities and the values that make our state and our country so strong.”

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, for her part, said, “The City of Boston condemns this decision by Donald Trump’s enablers on the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the administration to end protections for TPS holders. This ruling is as cruel as it is lawless. The justices have ignored the findings of our own government in a decision that will put lives in grave danger.”

She added, “America has needed serious immigration reform for over a generation. Instead of doing the hard work to improve the asylum system and create pathways to citizenship, the Trump Administration is targeting people who came here seeking safety from violence. Today this politically-motivated attack was given legal blessing by the MAGA majority on the court. Boston will never back down from protecting our neighbors. We urge Congress to act now to provide permanent solutions and a pathway to citizenship for TPS holders. Ansanm, nou pi fò.”
