In the wake of a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives calling for President Donald Trump to be beheaded in an awful post on social media, some the woke representative’s fellow Democrats in the swing state of North Carolina have, shockingly, decided to defend her rather than admit that what she posted was awful.
For reference, as the “No Kings” protests roiled America alongside the violent, anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles, the North Carolina Representative, Julie von Haefen, a far-left Democrat, posted a video from a Raleigh “No Kings” protest, including a sign depicting a guillotine with a head resembling President Trump. The post led to predictable outrage and calls to resign, and Rep. von Haefen deleted her account, but didn’t resign or indicate that she will do so.
Apologizing for her unacceptable behavior, the Democrat said, “Yesterday, I posted a video on social media containing crowd photos from the No Kings protest in Raleigh. One of the images of a protester holding a sign was inappropriate, and I later edited the video to remove the photo.”
Continuing her apology, Julie von Haefen added, “Let me be clear: I condemn political violence in all forms. My focus remains on bringing people together and fighting for the values that matter to North Carolinians. Like so many, I was horrified by the violence in Minnesota. There is no place for that kind of extremism in our democracy, no matter the target, no matter the party.”
However, she refused to resign despite clear calls from conservatives for her to do so, in order to remove from the legislature a person who would post such detestable things. Though she did not outright state her refusal on that point, she hasn’t resigned and doesn’t appear poised to resign. Her fellow Democrats have backed her as she has done so.
Namely, Anderson Clayton, chairwoman of the North Carolina Democratic Party, took the opportunity to attack Republicans and insist that really it is they who are execrable and pushing political violence, ignoring the fact that the issue at hand is that the woke NC representative seemingly called for Trump to be beheaded.
Clayton began by insisting that, really, it is Republicans who are the violent ones, pointing to two other NC political figures as supposed examples. She began, “The NCGOP spent the last year bankrolling the campaigns of Mark Robinson and Michele Morrow after they both repeatedly called for political violence.”

Continuing, Clayton defended Rep. von Haefen by insisting that both had similarly called for political violence, claiming, “Morrow wanted to execute everyone from Barack Obama to our Governor Roy Cooper. On the campaign trail, Robinson loudly declared that ‘some folks need killing’ and mocked Paul Pelosi on social media after someone tried to assassinate him.”
Then, pointing to the slayings of state legislators in Minnesota as further proof, ignoring in the process that it is unclear what the political leanings of the alleged killer were, Clayton declared, “This manufactured outrage over a photo in a reel to take advantage of the recent tragedy in Minnesota rings incredibly hollow and is a desperate attempt to change the narrative after tens of thousands of North Carolinians who took to the streets this weekend to denounce their agenda.”
