An illegal alien from India, Vipin Panchal, was arrested by U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement officers following a drunk driving incident that resulted in a car crash that killed Panchal’s passenger. The accident took place in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and is facing state charges of vehicular homicide, DUI, reckless driving, careless driving, and failure to stop at a red light.
Panchal was taken into custody by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Philadelphia during his court appearance in Allentown. Conservatives in the press and on social media are calling out Democrats for protecting Panchal and other illegal immigrant drunk drivers by voting against legislation that would deport them and thus prevented such tragedies from occurring. A total of 160 Democrats voted against the legislation.
Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL), the bill’s sponsor, spoke with reporters at The Daily Signal about how common this kind of behavior has become. “In the United States, someone dies in a crash with an impaired driver every 45 minutes,” Moore said. “I lost two of my young newlywed constituents to an illegal immigrant driving under the influence of alcohol.”
“I’m proud to join with my House Republican colleagues to protect American families from more of these tragedies by passing legislation to deport illegal immigrants who have been caught driving impaired,” Moore stated, according to the report. Despite Democrats coming out in force against HR 6976, the bill passed in the House of Representatives.
The Daily Signal explained that HR 6976 would “amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to provide that aliens who have been convicted of, or who have committed an offense for, driving while intoxicated or impaired are inadmissible and deportable.” Every member of the House GOP voted in favor of the bill, along with 59 Democrats.
The report also revealed a list of prominent Democrats who voted against the legislation, which includes: California’s Adam Schiff; Florida’s Debbie Wasserman Schultz; Maryland’s Jamie Raskin; Massachusetts’ Ayanna Pressley; Michigan’s Rashida Tlaib; Minnesota’s Ilhan Omar; Missouri’s Cori Bush; New York’s Jamaal Bowman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Jerry Nadler; South Carolina’s Jim Clyburn; and Texas’ Al Green and Sheila Jackson Lee.
“It’s unfortunately not surprising that 150 Democrats opposed this legislation,” Moore, the bill’s sponsor, went on to add. “In 2021, many of my Democrat colleagues on the Judiciary Committee voted down three Republican amendments that would have made immigrants ineligible for green cards with a DUI conviction. In 2020, then-candidate Biden said that illegal aliens with DUI convictions should be allowed to stay in the United States.”

Nadler, who voted against the bill, said the solution to the problem of Americans being killed by illegal alien drunk drivers was to emphasize public transportation and ride-sharing programs “so that people have an alternative to driving drunk.” He then accused the GOP of blaming the issue on immigrants instead of coming up with viable solutions. During his time in the White House, former President Joe Biden promised to hold ICE agents accountable for “stepping over his executive orders” and then stated that he doesn’t view drunk driving as a felony.
