As Republicans at the national and state levels earned massive victories mirroring former President Donald Trump’s monumental win in the presidential election, there has been particular focus on the state of Texas. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) landed a decisive victory against democratic challenger Collin Allred while the Lone Star state expanded its control in the Texas House of Representatives.
As Rep. Allred (D-TX) failed to unseat Cruz, being the third democratic challenger to fall short, it is clear that the effort to “Turn Texas Blue” has failed once again. Reports indicate that Cruz defeated Allred on an unofficial margin of 9 points. Cruz’s unquestionable win gives credence to the Republican cause to “Keep Texas Texas.”
According to reports, the latest numbers in the race show that Ted Cruz has received over 53 percent of the vote, whereas Allred lagged behind with over 44 percent. Despite spending approximately $78 million on the race, Allred underperformed Sen. Robert Alexander O’Rourke, also known as “Beto,” who came within 2.6 points of Cruz in 2018.
“Ted Cruz won again despite liberals from California and New York doing everything they could to bankroll his radical opponent,” according to National Republican Senatorial Committee Chair Steve Daines (R-Mont.), who highlighted the formidable challenge from Democrats around the nation, pouring resources into Texas. “No matter what gets thrown at him, Ted knows Texas and knows what it takes to win.”
During an election party on Tuesday night, Cruz said, “The results tonight, this decisive victory, should shake the Democrat establishment to its core.” Addressing Chuck Schumer, the outgoing Senate Majority leader, after Republicans flipped the Senate, Cruz added, “I want to say thank you, Chuck.”
Cruz previously spoke about Schumer in an October interview, stating, “This race in Texas is a very real battle. Chuck Schumer has been explicit that I’m his number one target in the country. And the Democrats, Schumer, and George Soros are flooding more than $100 million into the state of Texas,” Cruz said. “They are saturating the airwaves with attack ads, and it’s dangerous,” he added.
Governor Greg Abbott took to X, congratulating Cruz on his crucial victory. “Every candidate that I backed in Texas House general election races won tonight. We even had Republican candidates win seats that had been held by Democrats. There are more than enough votes to pass school choice in Texas,” the Lone Star governor wrote on X.
The reaction to what has been described by some commentators as a major political realignment favoring the Republican Party has not been received well by Democrats and the mainstream media. The American Tribune reported on comments from ABC’s “The View” where co-host Whoopi Goldberg was trying to find the silver lining in Harris’ massive defeat, which defied polling consensus before the election.
Goldberg said, “You know, everybody can always say, ‘oh, she should have done this. She should have done this.’ She said she did what she did.” She added, “She was everywhere. She talked to everybody, and people didn’t come out. I don’t know why and it doesn’t even matter.”
