Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) is once again sounding off on the absurd contentions of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY), this time regarding the federal budget and what should have been done about Democrats either going along with or holding up Republican spending plans.
The spat, which was far from the first online tussle between AOC and Fetterman, appears to have begun when Rep. AOC, at a Thursday, March 20, rally in Colorado alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), argued that the Democrats should have fought harder to hold up the Republican plans. Sen. Fetterman slammed that claim the next day, arguing that the woke “Squad” rep was being unrealistic.
During the Thursday event, AOC said, attacking the Democrats for working with Republicans on the spending matter, “This isn’t just about Republicans. We need a Democratic Party that fights harder for us too. But what that means is that we as a community must choose and vote for Democrats and elected officials who know how to stand for the working class.”
That came a few days after a tweet in which she attacked Democrats for working with Republicans on the matter, saying, “It should be very clear to every Senate Democrat that any vote for Cloture will also be considered a vote for the bill. People aren’t going to be tricked with procedural games. They know exactly what is going on. Defend Medicaid. Vote NO on Cloture. NO on bill.”
Sen. Fetterman was unhappy with all those claims from AOC, which he saw as unrealistic and blasted her for on X. Doing so in a tweet on Friday the 21st in which he posted a screenshot of a headline about AOC’s “fight harder for us” remarks, Sen. Fetterman said, “Fight “harder”—a stunt that would have harmed millions and plunged us into chaos. We kept our government open. Deal with it.”
AOC, predictably, eventually chimed in and attacked Sen. Fetterman. That response to him began with a tweet from Conor Lamb, a former Democrat congressman, who quote tweeted Fetterman and argued, “You are collaborating with – rather than fighting – people who: -destroyed union rights at Philly airport; -singled out a huge employer in our state (Penn) for a $175m cut; -announced closure of mine safety offices and even one for the Flight 93 memorial. Just this week.” AOC, agreeing, said, “I was wrong about you and I’m sorry Where do I submit my Conor Lamb apology form.” Watch AOC’s “fight harder” comments here:

In any case, commenters were split on whether to agree with Fetterman or argue the Democrats should take a harder line with the GOP. One who agreed, for example, wrote, “Fetterman sees that the democratic party is tanking. You guys should listen to Fetterman but you won’t which is good because the downhill slide will just continue, but you won’t get it.”
Those who disagreed, on the other hand, largely echoed AOC’s talking points. One such commenter, for example, said, “What? You literally helped Trump take away healthcare and social security from millions of people. Sometimes fighting harder means enduring some pain. We don’t just roll over. Polling shows that Democrats and independents believe you should have fought harder for a better deal, even if it meant shutting down the government.”
