In one of his funniest Truth Social posts as of late, President Donald Trump brought up an old line of attack against Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), roasting the senator as “Da Nang Dick” over his largely fictitious claims of dangerous military service in Vietnam. Trump noted that Sen. Blumenthal had been exposed as having lied about his military service.
For reference, Sen. Blumenthal had lied and claimed to have served bravely in Vietnam, and then was outed as having totally fabricated his stories of service. In reality, Blumenthal worked in Washington, D.C., during the war, and was in the Marine Reserves. Blumenthal admitted to lying in 2010, for a story in the New York Times.
Pam Bondi then, during a contentious hearing in the Senate on Tuesday, October 7, brought up those lies from years ago to rip the senator when he tried to accuse her of improper behavior. Doing so, she snapped, “Sen. Blumenthal, I cannot believe that you would accuse me of impropriety when you lied about your military service. You lied — you admitted you lied to be elected a U.S. senator. How dare you? I’m a career prosecutor. Don’t you ever challenge my integrity. Do not question my ability to be fair and impartial as attorney general!”
President Trump then brought the receipts regarding what happened and how the senator was exposed, calling for an investigation as he did so. Beginning the entertaining post, the president said, “Sanctimonious Richard ‘Da Nang Dick’ Blumenthal, perhaps the biggest ‘joke’ in the United States Senate, is at it again!”
Continuing in his typically over the top and entertaining tone, the president exploded about how Blumenthal lied about his military service in a clear case of stolen valor, snapping, “’Dick’ lied until the midpoint of his political career, convincing everyone, in particular the Fake News Media, that he was a great ‘War Hero’ who lived on the precipice of death in the jungles of Vietnam.”
Still not done with his examples of Blumethal’s horrid lies, Trump said, “He would talk about his life in the military in almost every speech, in particular the death defying dangers he faced in his many years ‘fight for freedom’ while in Vietnam. He stated that ‘the battles were violent and long, but there was no going back.'”
Then, describing how Blumenthal started crying over getting caught, Trump said, “And then it happened, Blumenthal was found out to be a FRAUD. The soldiers in his so-called ‘platoon’ came forward and said that they had no idea who this guy was. He was revealed, broke down and admitted, tears flowing from his eyes, that he LIED, a Whopper, one that lasted 20 year.”

Concluding, Trump called for Blumenthal to be investigated, saying, “This guy shouldn’t even be in the U.S. Senate. It should be investigated, and Justice should be sought. Right now there is a Congressman sitting in prison for lying about his past during a campaign. Well, those lies were nothing compared to those of Richard ‘Da Nang Dick’ Blumenthal, perhaps the greatest phony in the history of the United States Senate. He should be allowed to speak no longer!”
