The Iowa caucuses were Monday, and it wasn’t even close. GOP frontrunner and former President Donald Trump stunningly routed the field. So much so that the state was called 31 minutes into the event, even before many had actually made their way to the caucus.
It was called so fast that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ camp, who predicted he would win Iowa just weeks ago, cried election interference. DeSantis campaign spokesman Andrew Romeo said, “The media is in the tank for Trump and this is the most egregious example yet.”
DeSantis maintained his intention of pressing on by saying, “We’ve got our ticket punched out of Iowa.” However, the path to victory for DeSantis is even more narrow than it was before the Iowa caucus. Third-place finisher Nikki Haley was the only candidate to actually win a county, as Trump took 98 of 99 Iowa counties. The one Haley managed to win was by only one vote, keeping Trump from a statewide sweep.
Haley had boasted that the race would be a “two-person race” before the Iowa event, and she, in fact, may be correct, with the caveat being she isn’t one of the people in the race. Also, Cincinnati businessman Vivek Ramaswamy is no longer in the race. The Indian-American tech entrepreneur made considerable inroads as an alternative should Trump be disqualified from running. Immediately after withdrawing from the race, Ramaswamy threw his support behind Trump, and a likely cabinet position for himself should Trump win in November.
As news of the rout was released, conservative commenters and GOP members rejoiced loudly at the prospect of a full liberal media meltdown. House Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) said on X: “I have said it before, I will say it again — President Trump is our Republican Nominee for 2024 & he will defeat Joe Biden this November to #SaveAmerica! Cue the journo and liberal meltdown.”
Not all journalists are liberals, as former Fox personality Megyn Kelly said: “Trump wins Iowa easily. Honestly – what a comeback versus where he was after 2020. It’s truly stunning.” Other conservative media folks weighed in. Conservative media person Darren J. Beattie gleefully posted: “Establishment trash seething right now.”
Some Republican politicians were quick to show their enthusiasm and perhaps aid their job security by taking to social media to support President Trump. Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) gave the former President a rousing congratulations. He said: “Iowa is TRUMP Country! Congratulations to President Donald J. Trump on his MASSIVE win in the Hawkeye State. In November, the American people will vote to make America GREAT once again!”
House Speaker Mike Johnson also was effusive in his praise of President Trump. He offered: “Tonight’s vote was an endorsement of President Trump’s extraordinary record and his ongoing vision to fix our economy, secure our border, and defend the freedoms and values that make America great.” Marjorie Taylor Greene posted, “TRUMP WINS IOWA!” in all caps on X, and Washington lawyer and Trump insider Mike Davis said: “Trump dominated Iowa. Time for Republicans to rally around Trump. We must build a broad coalition. And win back the White House. To save our country. From the utter disaster called Joe Biden.”
It is obvious that Trump is likely to overcome the shenanigans of the left and secure the GOP nomination, and even though some may be professing praise of Trump to save their jobs or get a better one, they are correct in their messaging. The party must get behind Trump and rally to beat Joe Biden in November. The liberal media meltdown, then, should be epic to watch.
