As the eye of conservative scrutiny turns toward Fulton County DA Willis in the wake of her RICO case against former President Donald Trump and 18 of his 2020 campaign members and legal team, things continue to get worse for her. Particularly, she’s had to deal with allegations she misused funds when she hired her alleged lover, Nathan Wade, to be one of three special prosecutors in the case. However, she’s also now facing allegations that she ignored and then fired a whistleblower who brought evidence of corruption to her.
News on that was broken by the Free Beacon, which released an audio tape showing that DA Willis heard the allegations brought forward by a whistleblower, but then did not deny or take seriously the whistleblower’s complaints. DA Willis then fired the whistleblower about two months later.
Reporting on the matter, the Free Beacon said that the incident happened in 2021, when Willis was under a year into her time as DA for Fulton County. Then, an employee in the DA’s office, Amanda Timpson, met with DA Willis and claimed that she was demoted after she tried to stop a member of the Willis campaign from misusing federal money. The money was grant funding meant to prevent youth involvement in gangs.
During the meeting, Timpson alleged that the Willis campaign team member “wanted to do things with grants that were impossible, and I kept telling him, like, ‘We can’t do that.‘” Continuing, Timpson told Willis, “He told everybody … ‘We’re going to get MacBooks, we’re going to get swag, we’re going to use it for travel.’ I said, ‘You cannot do that, it’s a very, very specific grant.'”
DA Willis did not appear to take the complaints brought by Timpson seriously. Though she responded by saying, “I respect that is your assessment” and “And I’m not saying that your assessment is wrong,” she did not deny the allegations or take action on them.
But it gets worse. Shortly after the meeting, less than two months later, in fact, DA Willis abruptly fired Timpson. Later calling her a “holdover” from the previous DA, DA Willis had her escorted out by no less than seven armed investigators, the Free Beacon reports.
Speaking to the Free Beacon about the situation, Timpson said, “My case and Nathan Wade’s case are very similar when you break them down point by point.” Continuing, Timpson went on to add, “Ethical violations, abuse of power, and the misuse of county, state, and federal funds.”
Conservative X personality Alex Bruesewitz, posting a clip of the recording and commenting on it, wrote, “BREAKING: @FreeBeacon has obtained audio of a whistleblower telling Fani Willis that her top aide was misusing federal funds. Instead of firing the top aide, she fired the whistleblower. Fani Willis is as crooked as they come!!!”
Similarly, Free Beacon reporter Andrew Kerr wrote, “BREAKING: @FreeBeacon has obtained audio of a whistleblower privately warning Fani Willis in 2021 that her top aide was trying to misuse federal funds. Willis did not dispute the allegations. 56 days later, Willis fired the whistleblower and perp walked her out of the office.”
