Candace Cameron Bure is clapping back at critics who claim she lied about not eating fast food in the last two decades.
Earlier this month, Bure shared that she hasn’t had any fast food except for West Coast burger chain In-N-Out in two decades. Since the internet loves nothing more than a good game of “gotcha,” especially where conservatives are concerned, trolls unearthed a 2012 since-deleted social media photo she took of her holding a Chick-fil-A cup in a car with her son. “We love Chikin!” she captioned the post.
While that doesn’t seem particularly damning, the internet did what it does best and lambasted Bure, calling her a liar.
On May 15th, Bure wrote on her Instagram:
“I haven’t eaten fast food except for In-N-Out in 20 years,” Bure wrote on a May 15 Instagram story, according to reports. “Some days I wonder what a burger and fries is like from McDonalds or Burger King or Wendy’s or any of those other places I’ve never eaten at … Am I going to find out? No!”
She added, “I don’t regret it. You can’t convince me otherwise.”
After the backlash from social media, Bure’s representatives said this, via Fox News: “Candace told me that she drove her son to get food at the restaurant and she had only ordered an iced tea for herself. Candace is just holding a cup in the image.”

A completely reasonable explanation considering Chik-Fil-A has extremely good kids meals as well as sweet tea.
Of course, critics ignored the fact that Bure had previously said she eats a mostly plant-based diet. She struggled with bulimia so the conservative Christian star has to be very careful with what she eats. She said: “I eat a very plant and grain-based diet,” she told the magazine. “I follow a more Mediterranean diet, so I eat lots of fresh vegetables and whole grains and fish. I don’t eat dairy very often, and I’ve cut most of the sugar out of my diet — I see the biggest effect from not eating as much sugar.”
After struggling with the eating disorder, Bure knows she has certain things she likes that she must avoid, probably Chik-Fil-A. “I have the things I know I like to eat, and I just kind of stay within those recipes,” she told Cosmopolitan in 2017.
Bure and her husband Valeri have three grown children, but would often make two different meals at home; one for the kids, and one for the adults, so she could maintain her specific dietary needs. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t occasionally indulge, just not at Chik.
She told Cosmopolitan she breaks her diet rules about 20% of the time. “I don’t eat dairy on a regular basis, but a lot of baked goods contain butter or milk. To say I never have dessert would be a complete lie,” she said.
The left and social media loves nothing more than catching conservatives violating their principles. The “aha!” moment feeds liberals like a Chik-Fil-A drive thru. Unfortunately for the haters and the trolls, Candace Cameron Bure had a perfectly good excuse for something she didn’t even need an excuse for.
The trolls will have to crawl back under the bridge, or at least back into their parents basement and wait for the next conservative celebrity to slip up before they come out again.
