Jim Matthews, 57, was a WWJ950 radio host in Michigan who was brutally murdered in his home by a man with eight prior convictions, including kidnapping and assault with intent to commit murder, who authorities had released from jail on parole in September of 2022. The killer, Arthur Williamson, met Matthews’ girlfriend and mother of his two kids at a church-hosted Narcotics Anonymous meeting.
Such is what Joe Nicolai, Jim Matthews’ brother, told The Daily Mail, saying, “I don’t know exactly what business he has there with them. All I know is that he met Nichole at a NA meeting, I’d never heard him mentioned and I live across the street. I have seen him a couple of times leave and go into the place. He is a demon sent straight from hell. He should have been institutionalised years ago – he shouldn’t have been allowed out.”
Guertin, the friend of Williamson from Narcotics Anonymous, was able to escape the horrific attack despite having been gagged and bound by Williamson. She and her 5-year-old daughter, Rosie, fled the home and collapsed in a nearby parking lot after flagging a car.
Police, when they responded to the attack and stormed the home, found Williamson overdosing on heroin and suffering from self-inflicted wounds in the basement of the home.
Hunter, the young boy hit with a hammer, was rushed to the hospital in crucial condition and had to undergo both emergency brain and ear surgery. The Daily Mail reported, at the time, that “Hunter is now in a critical but stable condition and managed to squeeze his relatives hands as well as open his eyes after the surgery.”
Fortunately, Hunter has mostly recovered from the attack. November update to the GoFundMe added that the 10-year-old boy is doing better, saying, “My nephew is home! He is doing amazing. He can walk, talk, and eat. We still have more physical recovery ahead of us but we are working hard to welcome him home and helping him transition to living with myself and my husband. He loves spending time on YouTube and watching Disney+.”
Williamson was charged with 7 felonies, including first-degree murder. He pled guilty to the attack in April of 2023.
Joe Nicolai, speaking about the killer’s criminal record and saying that he should have been locked up long ago, said, “He’s got a really bad track record is what the police and his colleagues said. I’m very happy that he is going to be arraigned, and face justice for the crimes that he has committed. There are still a lot of emotions with the family, as well as anger. What business did this man have at the home with the children, why was he a frequent visitor. These are the answers I would like to have. How someone with his history can just be released into this society I just can’t wrap my brain around it.”
